Melissa and Bryan formed "Patched" soon after they met in 2000. They found that they shared similar interest in music and were equally disappointed in the lack of 'variety' in the Hill Country music scene.Melissa came from a gospel background and sang as a soloist throughout her high school years and beyond. It was during this period that she started performing not only gospel hymns, but jazz standards as well. Bryan grew up in a small, one-horse South Texas town were there was no entertainment value at all. At the age of 14, he and a few of his childhood friends formed a garage band called "Paris Green", which had Bryan on lead vocals. The group played popular rock songs at the time and played a few venues along the way. They stayed together for a course of over 7 years before finally going separate ways. It was during the latter part of the group's history that Bryan learned to play guitar and began writing his own original compositions.Melissa and Bryan moved to Kerrville and started to perform at local open mics. There, they met a lot of musicians and quickly became part of the 'family circle'. Through these open mic jams, they formed a group with some of the musicians they had met and eventually became known as Sol Patch. Although some of the musicians have come and gone, the heart of the group has remained intact with Bryan and Melissa.Sol Patch's basic philosophy is to play music with "soul". If it ain't got a groove, you won't hear them play it. Over the years, they have consistently pleased audiences with their renditions of cover songs and their own originals. The most popular comment they get at their shows is, "I love the variety of your music and it doesn't put me to sleep". That says it all in a nutshell.Sol Patch continues to play all around the South Central Texas Region as a duet, trio, and a full piece band that includes a horn section. They have played numerous live music venues, corporate parties and private functions, and have been known to donate their time to many benefits and fund raisers over the years. The group's lineup includes Melissa on lead vocals, Bryan on guitar and lead vocals, Joe Contreras on lead guitar, John Gammil on bass, Carlos Escobedo on drums and percussion, and Richard Lopez on saxophones and flute. After spending lots of late nights and traveling many road miles together, Sol Patch is finally going into the studio to record a full length album starting in late August 2008. At the helm of the project is none other than John Greenburg, My Texas Music Award's Producer of the Year 2006. Greenburg is taking on full producer duties and the group is really looking forward to working with him and are excited about what the future holds. Hopefully, the as-of-yet-titled album will be ready by the end of the year, helping Sol Patch start off 2009 with a BANG!!Stay tuned for updates and let the music patch your soul!
