Nick began his recording engineer career in London, England at Decca Studios and then became a staff engineer at Wessex Studios. On a visit back to Canada Nick met with André Perry and discussed the unprecedented idea of building an environmental studio in the Laurentian Mountains. In 1971 Nick and André designed ‘Le Studio’ Morin Heights. It was the first studio to bring in a SSL console into North America and one of the first studios to use digital as a mixdown tool.Throughout the 70s Nick engineered albums for Chicago, Rainbow, The BeeGees, The Police, and several repeat engagements by Cat Stevens , Nazareth and Rainbow. Nick began his production career with April Wine’s Harder/Faster which reached the top ten on Billboard’s Top 200 and for which Nick was a Juno nominee regarding the singles, “Say Hello” and Streetheart’s “Under My Thumb”.This is an ever evolving industry and by late 1983, with offers requiring Nick to take substantial time away from ‘Le Studio’, he decided he’d pursue work as an independent engineer/producer., and so co-produced, engineered and mixed Kim Mitchell’s ‘Akimbo Alogo’.. Nick became the engineer/mixer for Deep Purple when they reformed in 1983, engineering and mixing Perfect Strangers, House of Blue Light and Slaves and Masters. Meanwhile, Nick co-produced, engineered and mixed several solo and duo albums for Roger Glover and Ian Gillan.In 1992 he set home base in Toronto. Initially, aligning himself with McClear Pathé Studios and for the first year Nick worked as the engineering supervisor there where he once again began developing Canadian talent . Nick recorded: Bruce Hornsby, Live at McClear; The Canadian All Stars: A Tribute to Glenn Miller; Memo Acevedo and the Jazz Cartel; he also travelled to Nashville where he recorded George Jones, Live in Tennessee. He also recorded & produced Rita DiGhent's Sprawl Lp and engineered Rita's Standards Sessions 1 & 2.During the mid-nineties Nick Blagona produced many independent Canadian and American albums; he engineered musical film scores, Nick forged a new facet of his career as a mastering engineer in 1994. In early 1996 Metalworks Recording Studios built a world-class mastering room . Almost eight years later Nick has mastered well over 2000 projects from across the continent and has gained an excellent reputation for himself, and Metalworks Mastering Lab has become Canada’s leading mastering room. A decade later, Nick Blagona is Canada’s top Mastering Engineer.At Metalworks , Nick has been working with the brilliant talent of Jeff Martin of Tea Party to create an interactive 5.1 Surround Sound DVD of Tea Party’s best videoes. David Usher asked Nick and Jeff Martin to create a retrospective of Moist in DVD 5.1. Recently Nick has just finished producing Ian Gillan’s celebration of 40 years of music in 5.1. Recorded Foo Fighters & Greenday for the HBO series “Reverb”. In 2005, Nick produced Starewell. The single "Blurrer" become a top ten Hit in Canada. In December of 2005, Nick went To Ireland to record Jeff Martin's solo LP. In 2006, Nick has Engineered the new Alexisonfire and in 2007: Hunter Valintine and Protest The Hero record. Nick speaks French & German.
