About Me

As a young kid after seeing some breakdancers in Wathamstow, East London dancing to the B Boys '2,3 Break' and then subsequently getting a Hip Hop mixtape from my older cousins, I got into hip hop. I tried breakdancing and graffiti but was rubbish at them. I did my first mix on a tape recorder borrowed from a friend (of Paul Hardcastles 19 with a recording of a class in my school mucking about and getting told off by a teacher) when I was 15. I got my first DJ gig aged 16 DJ'ing at a friends party as I had the most records (about 40 which was considered big!) and from there got quite a few gigs as DJ'ing wasn't seen to be particulalrly cool then. Went to Brighton to study but DJ'ing and partying at the Zap to Chris Coco and Streets Ahead meant I failed. Managed to convince the University to let me back to retake. Started a club called 'Shake Yer Wig' in my second year which mixed up hip hop, funk, jazz and reggae and as Brighton was quite housey at the time the night took off. It was a great time for hip hop. Fresh tunes every week that are now classics...Tribe, Busta, Premier, Jeru, KRS One etc played alongside the original breaks. Carried on doing nights through this time and I founded Tru Thoughts in September 1999. I am the A&R and co-owner of Tru Thoughts and Zebra Traffic. Fortunately I get to DJ regularly promoting the music I enjoy. My weekly radio show is called 'Unfold' which you can listen to each week (archived) via www.totallyradio.com and on Sunday 10pm-12am on Brighton's Juice 107.2. I also record music with TM Juke under the artist name Me&You. Our debut album 'Floating Heavy' is out now.
