Soon to come..."IVY"

"A Synopsis from my book..."IVY"....."TARIQ (C) “Life is a hustle and I’m on these streets shackled to concrete.” That’s what my man Dante said in one of his hopefully one day it’ll be platinum rap songs. But as much of a wanna-be a rapper as he is, it makes sense, even more so as I stand in the 90 degree weather trying to coordinate this festival. Making a living is hard as hell, but going home to my wife’s beautiful smile was worth it at the end of a long day. My mind started to drift to moments of bliss, as she would remove all of my clothes and begin slowly massaging my neck, shoulders and back with the tips of her petite fingers and fingertips. I glanced down at the slight bulge my stomach caused that her home-cooked meals were responsible for. Well after a tender four years of marriage she’s got her wish. My baby never complained though she just categorized it as more cushion for the pushing. “Yo, Tariq!” I spun around and noticed one of my project assistants calling me. “What’s up,” I replied. “Hey man the guys don’t know how you want the stage set up. Can you come over and give us a hand with the layout?” He said clutching a copy of the street layout I had put together from last year’s festival. I shook my head in slight disgust but even more so to jerk the loose sweat beads away from my forehead. There were some days I just wanted to give up on the Freestyle Festival and stay in my air conditioned office, but it had become such a popular and positive influence in the community that I just couldn’t let it go. Plus with Ivy being head of The Harmony Park Community Center that was named after her sister who was lost to a drunk driver. I could not let her down. I think she was looking more forward to this than I was. But I do have to admit it gave me something to do after my career in the NBA came to an abrupt and heartbreaking end. I loved basketball but I sustained an ankle and wrist injury that left me sidelined permanently in pain, thank God for those 800MG of Ibuprofen! After my injury I endeavored to stay as closed to the game as possible but things just weren’t the same if I wasn’t out there on the court dazzling the crowd with my trademark fade-away jump shots and “slide through the lane” slam-dunks. My hand reached down and adjusted the championship ring I still wore on very rare occasions and let my internal memoir’s fly to the wind as I followed my assistant to my newest and most current challenge…The Community. Ring, ring!! I jumped as my cell-phone rang. I took a look at the caller ID that blinked in bright blue “unknown” and opened the flip. “Tariq Patterson speaking.” I said in my professional voice. “Ivy is a cheater and she is sleeping with my husband.” At first I figured it was my wife playing a practical joke, but two things killed that thought. First of all Ivy didn’t play practical jokes and second I had gotten these kinds of calls before when I played ball. They were common when lady fans somehow stumbled upon the number from my funny style teammates who thought it would be comical to see me in a jacked-up situation with my wife. “Did you hear me? I said your wife is cheating with my man!” She yelled what seemed at the top of her lungs and then hung up the phone. My face twisted like I had just sipped five Guinness Stouts and closed my phone going on about my business without missing a beat. I hated prank calls but like I said they came with the territory whether you’re on the tail end of fame or in the cockpit of it looking down the public throat. As far as those accusations being true…never! There are two things I know in the world, basketball and Ivy Joyce Patterson, who would never cheat on me. Even though my incidents before and after the game. She loved me unconditionally.

IVYTime is money and both my money and time are very valuable. I don’t like and will not tolerate lateness, even if it is lunch date. My Movado never lied… I set it to the cable box every day and everybody knows that digital cable is NEVER wrong. Wayne was fifteen minutes late and I was cursing at Tariq if he was five minutes late! I called on Wayne when my hormones are raging when Tariq is on the road. His career was gone due to his negative attitude on the court and fighting. He wasn’t even allowed at the games with the players unless he was sitting in the stands. In frustration I stirred my cold coffee, checked my watch and crossed my legs at the same time. Just as I was bout to retrieve a five-dollar bill from my purse and pay for my beverage Wayne comes stumbling through the Bistro door smiling from ear to ear. “Hey, sorry I’m late.” He kissed me on the cheek…one rule broken no public displays of affection. “What the hell’s your problem coming in here all messed up? You really need to check yourself. I don’t know who you think you are but you must have me confused with some of those other heifers you deal wit’ because I am not the one.” When I finished my verbal tirade of word missiles, Wayne carefully adjusted his beige and gray pinstripe suit and gave me the smile that seemed to melt all my frustrations away. Wayne was a gorgeous sculpture of a man, not quite as tall as Tariq but in much better shape physically. Wayne was about six foot two maybe two hundred or so pounds. His skin was like a toasted bagel and the wave texture of his hair was always perfect. I caught a glimpse of his light gray eyes as he took a seat across from me and held my hand. “Now you know I would never be late on purpose. I had a late meeting down at the bank. I tried to call but you never have your cell on.” I didn’t say a word I jus sat there losing myself in his eyes and smooth controlled style. “Now if you’re finished tripping, baby I’ve go something for you. He said confidently. “What is it, Wayne?” I said pretending not to be enthusiastic as he reached in his briefcase and handed me a picture of him in the nude. “Surprise! Now you can think about me when you’re with the limp-wood husband of yours.” He said with a sexy smirk. Rule number two broken, no disrespecting my husband, and with that I had officially returned to that little city called pissed off. “Thanks, but no thanks.” I said as the patrons in the restaurant watch me purposely stick the whole thing in my untouched glass of water before placing it back in Wayne’s open briefcase next to a photo of what was probably his wife or one of his girlfriends. Wayne looked on in awe as I grabbed my purse off the table to leave. Grabbing my arm Wayne gave me those puppy-dog eyes; “Baby I am sorry you’re right I was tripping but I am only telling the truth.” “You know what Wayne. Little did you know that you missed out on getting this when you walked in here late. Plus I told you I won’t tolerate you disrespecting my man like that.” “Then why you always calling me talking about your needs?” He had a valid point, which made me realize that this cheating game was not for me. I had to stop and work on my own marriage. “You right Wayne.” I said confidently and stood up. By now, I had gotten several of the male patrons attention and the way that may silver Gucci dress was hugging every curve sure didn’t hurt. I could Tell that Wayne’s so called ego was bruised and he proved my point be getting loud and showing his ass.“Hey Ivy how about I take these photo’s of you and politely send them to your husband in Cali at the game? You know I can arrange that.” “Wayne you know my husband don’t like your ass anyway so that is something I am not worried about. You also forget that most of the players on that team is on my side because they want to hit this so they would love to do a favor for me.” “You conceited bitch! You think you’re the only tramp in town that gives good head? Hell to the naw! I do have a wife and a few other hoes that can ride this like a Stallion. So go and do the damn thang but remember when you’re at the crib asking for an orgasm…I’ll be with one of my ladies stroking like Clarence Carter.” Rule number three…NEVER call me a bitch. But Wayne was right. I loved Tariq but he was slackin in the orgasm department. He was too wrapped up in how good my stuff is not paying attention that it takes two to make it complete. With a light tap on the shoulder I got Wayne to turn around before walking out the door. “What?” He said exiting the Bistro and stopping on the sidewalk. “I just wanted to say bye the right way.” I said calmly stroking his cheek. He smiled and reached to give me a kiss as my back Gucci pumps connected like a magnet to metal against his privates. Needless to say Wayne folded like a Kit-Kat and collapsed on the ground with a thud.
