I was born in Montreal Canada in 1961 and began my musical journey singing and playing the piano at six years old. A few years later my brother showed me how to play "Louie, Louie"on his bass .I was hooked and I begun in eanest to play guitar. Growing up in a musical family, there was always a lot of music played, listened to and shared around the house.
"Dave Paterson is not new to the Blues, he's been honing his skills on guitar, harp and vocals for twenty odd years performing for enthusiastic audiences and fans in clubs and festivals from Montreal to Vancouver. What is new, is his long over due gem of a record.
Over the years the blues has worn a variety of faces and the great majority of people outside the circle of hardcore blues fans are sadly unaware of the " old school." style of rural blues which emerged out of the southern states in the 20's to 40's.This was a heartfelt music composed of complex picking and rhythm patterns coupled with strong distinctive melodies which told emotional stories of day to day life at the time. It was a very personal musical form and was the inspiration and catalyst for much of the music being created in the present time" Sandy "Bone" Smith (From CD liner notes)
After years of playing as a solo artist I am now also performing with a full band backing me on a variety of roots and blues styles. With this recording project and a new one in the works, expect to see me out on the road in the New Year ahead.
