Synnefa me Pantelonia in Greek means 'Clouds in Trousers' and the band is named after Russian futurist poet Vladimir Mayakovsky's poem with the same title. In 2000 their first single was released, also titled 'Synnefa me Pantelonia'. It was a cover of the Cars' Heartbeat City with the original lyrics substituted with excerpts from Mayakovsky's poem (translated into Greek).
The single was followed by their debut album 'Tipota den Krybetai Kato Apo Ton Ilio' (Nothing is hidden beneath the sun) and its sound fused influences from pop, punk and ethnic music. Numerous gigs all over Greece followed to support the album and the band's live sound came together during this period.
The second album, "Kokkino Baloni" (Red Balloon), was released in April 2006 and was recorded in the band's own studio. The second album's sound is more mature and cohesive while still a mix of eclectic influences- there's another cover here, this time of 'Dalika' (Pantechnicon), a Greek folk song by Dimos Moutsis and Kostas Tripolitis in 9/8 time. Alongside this there are pure pop moments - Kokkino Baloni, (Red Balloon) and I Elena Lei (Elena Says) - with forays into electronica and more poetry set to music. This time the poem is 'Oi Agapes' (The Lovers) by Kostas Karyotakis.
The band is currently preparing to go on tour, so look out for them - if you're in Greece, they'll be somewhere near you soon. The video clip for 'Kokkino Baloni' is set to air on Greek TV channels from 4th September, and 'Kokkino Baloni', the album, is available online and in music stores.Within the next few days you'll be able to listen to new songs. In the summer, Synnefa me Pantelonia will tour through Greece - Cyprus - Spain - Holland - Rumania - South Africa.. but they begin with Giannitsa where their first summer concert is taking place on the 6th July..
