About Me

I have not changed or updated this much since I started myspace!Who am I? Well those who know me, know my birth name or nickname, but I can also be the "Witchfinder". That monicker is of course in honor of my favorite music group Witchfinder General, the unheralded New Wave of British Heavy Act of the early 1980s. I have adored this group since I first discovered them in 1983-4 and although they disbanded by the mid 80s and I never witnessed them in concert, this early DOOM metal band has become my favorite group.Besides, it is a cool name and makes people wonder what is a witchfinder?I also pay much homage to the greatest American Metal band in my humble opinion that started off in the 1970s and rolled into the early 90s-Cirith Ungol. They were unlike any other group of their era and heavy as hell. As different as they were to the other styles, they were basically an epic metal band which kicked ass. If you are unfamiliar with either, you have been probably brainwashed by MTV or listen to Culture Club in your car or home. The two groups have enjoyed cult status and will remain two of my favorites.Update: I will occasionally change my profile picture- currently my homage is to another unheralded American Metal band: Griffin. Anyone who knows what happened to them or how to contact them let me kniowBut, again who am I? I am not just a metal-head that has nothing better to do. I've had a very interesting life thus far and hope to have a more thrilling future. I grew up in Brooklyn, New York, now live across the bridge in Staten Island. But, my history outside of Flatbush Ave is even more distinct. I also lived in Europe for over 5 years (1994-1998) in Bulgaria (yes, Bulgaria). Why a former eastern bloc nation? Well it is a long tale, but basically after finishing my Bachelor's Degree in Anthropology/Archaeology, I continued to pursue that as a career. I excavated wherever possible locally and then got my first taste of Europe by working in Cyprus in 1992. The following year I was asked to go to Bulgaria to excavate and I feel in love with that nation, the people, and the idea that it was different. I was asked to return and do my graduate degree there and I continued to excavate as well. So I learned more archaeology and studied Southeast European History with a primary focus on Ancient Greece and Rome with a heavy dose of Thracian and Proto-Thracian studies. My favorite time period was the Late Bronze Age- roughly 1500-1000 BCE. This focused on the Trojan war era, the demise of the Minoans and Mycenaeans, yet it als on had incredible social implications in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.I wrote my Master's Thesis on the sight I excavated for 5 years and how it affected the socio-economic development in SE Eurupe in the Late Bronze Age-basically what was the connection during the time of the Trojan War with southern Bulgaria. I developed some language skills, worked as an English language instructor, coached and played baseball for the Blagoevgrad Buffaloes (I was the first foreign born player to play for the Bulgarian baseball league-making me Jackie Robinson-like)and played in their national baseball league and some international tournaments, played soccer as well for and indoor league as the goalie for an international group of college students- a very serious intramural kind of league, we competed weekly in a 10 team league of mostly excellent amateur players-I loved that experience. I also DJed in a local club for a while- crowds of around 1000 people a night- that was a crazy experience. And I travelled around most of SE Europe.I returned stateside in 1999 with my future wife and we have been able to settle down and set up our lives together. I thought buying a new car was a big deal, but it was nothing next to buying a house. And this year we had our first child, Alexander, who is just awesome. You can see some pictures of him on my page. He is a great blessing and I look very much so to raising him and sharing his experiences. I also just bought my first SUV-love it!After I did do some more archaeology work, I suffered an injury that made me seek alternative means of income and tried out teaching high school. I have now been teaching since 1999, covering mostly World and European History. I'll be doing that for another 20 years or until I hit Lotto.Well, that covers some of the basics: History buff, archeaologist, anthropologist, polyglot, along with interests in Heavy Metal Music ( I am a walking encyclopedia of Heavy Metal History- if I don't know your band, you probably were never written about in a major or semi-major magazine (Terrorizer, Metal Maniacs, Metal Hammer, Pit, Outburn, Decibel, Revolver, or older classics like Metal Forces or Metallian) , or had a proper release that could be purchased by the average fan)-- I collect LPs still and If I had more dinero- I would own every album created and every possible demo. My collection numbers near 10,000 LPs, Cassettes, and CDs (and I don't know how many thousands of MP3s...), I attend concerts still on a regular basis (It is incredibly hard to get people my age to go to shows- especially finding people into really heavy music-If you live locally and have that urge feel free to contact me), I have been lucky to have met and hung out with numerous groups over the years (Mostly due to my friends groups from Brooklyn-Type O Negative & Life of Agony--- Thanks). I also host a heavy Metal Music Club at my High School since 2002.I also am a sports junkie and am a fan of the Yankees, Giants (and the Jets to a degree), the Islanders (and the Devils to some extent), and International Soccer as well(avid US National team fan) especially World Cup soccer, I also do fantasy sports (baseball and Football) they are exciting when done right. They can also test ones patience and friendships! What else? I love to travel, visit museums and histoic sights, collect comic books, collect sports cards, watch TV and Movies, take walks in parks and beaches especially with my son, I'm sure of some other things, feel free to ask.Right now I am loving life and being a dad- he is the most important person in my world and Iwill do anything for him to keep him happy...

My Interests

My first interest is now my favorite guy in the world- my son- he is just so cool and has changed many things for me and makes me want to be a better human being.Besides him my other interests lie in:History, Archaeology, Politics ,Science & Astronomy, Internet surfingObviously Heavy Metal & Hard Rock Music ( I also like Classic Rock, Early Rock, Classical Music, The tiniest amount of Rap, Some Blues Music , and Broadway Music), Sports-playing/watching and doing fantasy sports, I would play baseball & softball anytime I could, but this is infrequent these days, I also umpire games, I am a huge sports fan of American Football-NY GIANTS fan (& NY Jets), International Football (Soccer)-I Never Miss a USA soccer game against any nation- wish they played more games in the NY area- And my house is on lock down during the World Cup, Baseball- HUGE NY YANKEES fan, Hockey- NY ISLANDER fan (when they are eliminated as usual I go for the NJ Devils), concerts-I hope to see/meet anyone whose music has inspired me or interested me- See my list for favorites.I enjoy nature and learning about various animals- especially sharks. I think they are the most incredible species on earth and hate that humans cowardly kill them by the millions.I hope all the people eating shark fin soup choke and die!I am also hoping to discover new music from Myspace that is totally up my alley (and perhaps some that is just a bit on a different path which has already happened). Television:

Yes I love Televison - it may not be everyone's cup of tea,but the memories and enjoyment from these shows and others has helped me understand sadness, humor, thrills, and story telling. It supplements all the reading I have squeezed in my life and other experiences. When you meet a fellow fanof a favorite show- it can lead to many great discussions and good times. Some of course were silly and harmless- but, evena show like Hogan's Heroes was a fantastic social commentary 20 years after WWII and was pure genius. A book could not hve had such an impact. Not to mention such great TV movies like Shogun, Holocaust, or Roots which opened my mind up to historical events. My All-time Favorites: Star Trek Original, Star Trek Next Generation, All in the Family, Sanford & Son, Soap, M.A.S.H., The Shield, 24, Land of the Lost, Seinfeld, Welcome Back Kotter, Deadwood, The Honeymooners, Get Smart, Hogan's Heroes, Family Ties, the Odd Couple, Sgt.
