Jeff Burton's 2007 Cars
Jeff Burton has been racing for more than 30 years now. It was at age 7 that Burton first got behind the wheel of a go-kart.
He eventually won two Virginia karting state championships before moving to stock cars in 1984. He excelled on his home track of South Boston Speedway, winning six Late Model races in '86 and seven in '88.
Burton also began his NASCAR career in 1988, competing in five Busch Series races for his father, John, twice finishing 11th. He got his first series victory in September 1990 at Martinsville, driving for Busch legend Sam Ard.
Burton ran full time in the Busch Series through 1993, finishing a personal-best ninth in points in '92. He has 20 career Busch victories.
In July '93 he made his Cup debut, starting sixth at New Hampshire, but a crash ended his race after just 86 laps. Racing full time in '94, Burton won Cup rookie of the year honors.
It wasn't until 1996, however, when Burton began driving for Jack Roush that his career took off. He had six top-fives and 12 top-10s and finished 13th in points.
In 1997, Burton began a string of four consecutive years where he finished in the top five in points. During that time he amassed 15 of his career 17 victories, including his first in April '97 at Texas. Burton was a career-best six races in '99 and finished a personal-best third in points in 2000.
Burton finished 10th in points in 2001, the last year he won a race. In 2005 Burton left Roush Racing for Richard Childress Racing. He had three top-fives and six top-10s driving the No. 31 Chevrolet and finished 18th in points for the second consecutive year.
