Soul On Sundays

About Me

Jazzie J grew up listening to a wide genre of different sound from Soul to Disco party. His love for music has eventually brought him into the dynamic and ever-evolving world of clubbing and music scene, as he became one of the most versatile DJs in the UK.Starting out as an amateur DJ at student parties during university, he soon found his passion and realised his talent for understanding music and mixing records. Almost immediately, he began doing mobile discos in a local venue called Mercia Park, in Coventry, UK, providing music entertainments for weddings and other party functions. He also started a regular RnB promotion night at the same venue which became very successful. Before long, he caught the eye of the manager of the one of the biggest night club in town at the time called Mr Gs, who offered him a weekend residency at the club to recoup his growing number of fans as customers.Ultimately, Jazzie J became a prominent professional DJ, specialised in Soul, RnB as well as Dance, House, Party, Reggae. He spotted a niche in the music market and started his first promotion company, Funkytime Production, catering for Soul and Hip-Hop lovers locally and nationally. His company provided DJs as well as celebrated artists performing live in venues all over the country. Whilst dejaying and promoting at Mr Gs, he was approached by the entertainments managers of both Warwick and Coventry Universities to assist in setting up their own RnB nights. Soul Nation at Warwick University, was then set up and became a great success. Jazzie J also played a vital role in organising Coventry Universitys biggest RnB night at the Planet nightclub. To date, he has brought the likes of Beverly Knight, Soul2Soul, Lyden David Hall, Shola Ama, Top Cat, Blu Cantrell, Nathan, Lemar, Wayne Wonder, Raghav, miss dynamite and MVP to Coventry and other cities. He had also played alongside renowned DJs Tim Westwood, Trevor Nelson, Rampage, The Ill Kids, Boggie Bunch, Dreem Team, EZ Luck & Neat, Artful Dodger and So Solid, but to name a few.In 1995, Jazzie J was recruited by talent scouts from Sony Music to become one of their music representatives and street team members. His latest on-going project, Soul on Sundays, was launched in a brand new multi-million pound club(Ikon/Diva sky dome) in Coventry in 1999, after his triumphant over fierce competition from other promotion companies. It has become the longest running and one of the most successful RnB nights in the Midlands to date. It has featured in the local newspapers, music magazines such as Blues & Soul and BBC Radio1Xtra have broadcasted live from the night. In 2000, he organised a DJ competition, UK vs. Kenyan DJs, in the infamous entertainment venue/restaurant, The Carnivore, in Nairobi, Kenya. The event was broadcasted live on a national radio station to over 5 million listeners..Jazzie Js extensive career spans for 12 years in which he had been a resident DJ in some of the most prestigious clubs all around the Midlands, London, Southampton, Hull, Nottingham and Cheltenham. He had also appeared as guest DJ internationally in countries such as Greece, Dubai, Ibiza, Germany and Kenya. Check out Jazzie J on the soulonsundays website www.soulonsundays.co.uk.
