For those prone to ask "Are you really my friend?" I've been seeing a bunch of those lately. Don't get me wrong, I take no offense to them... but it makes me wonder if some think people like me are misleading them with a false sense of friendship.Let me clear about my intentions... I am a writer promoting interest in his fiction. I use a continuing series on MySpace as one of my tools. I either invited you to read my work or accepted your friend request pretty much solely with that intention. I may have farmed your profile off of a friend's list, possibly came accross your profile just meandering around, or you found me. My goal is to entertain, provoke thought... and hopefully get some people talking about my work, so that people influencial in my career path may take notice.Does this mean I am not your friend, in a real sense of the word? I'm definitely not going to say "I have enough friends in this world," and shun you all. As a matter of fact, I believe myself to be very open to talking and chatting and answering questions and making new friends. However, let me put it like this... with out taking an actual inventory, I would say maybe about 6 or 7 of you are true, close, personal friends... and I'd say about 10 of you are well on your way to being called that... this is out of a list of 340 people at the time of this writing. The rest of you and I havn't really had any correspondence yet, so since I don't actually "know" you, I can't call you and I true friends. This is why I don't repost bulletins asking who is a real friend and so on... it's just not the goal behind this page. I'm trying to get people to read my work, not make them jump through hoops. I think the bulk of you do undertand this. Now, I'm not as closed off as some other people promoting themselves here... I do read the bulletins that appear on my page when I log in... because I am looking for common ground to see what's going on in people's worlds... I do look back at past bulletins to see what is displayed in my bulletins, but those I read are generally the ones I talk to regularly and am just making sure I'm not missing anything. When I think it's relevent to do so, I reply to your bulletins, and if I have no common ground with it, I close it and move on. I try to respond to every mail I get... notice the word try... sometimes I'm in a hurry and save it meaning to get back to it, or on a rare occasion I have neglected to reply thinking that such isn't the intention of the mail. I try to thank everyone who leaves me a comment, but of course I occasionally forget or get distracted else where. The point is... for those interested in making friends with me, the oppurtunity is there. In short... If you are truly concerned about whether or not we "really are friends" why don't you just go ahead and send me a mail or comment, tell me a bit about yourself, and let me know you want to make a friend outta me? To be honest, if you need to post a bulletin like that to tell your real friends from your fair weather friends, then your problems are a little bit bigger than your "let's seperate the wheat from the chaff" bulletin will solve.
