That which does not kill us makes us stranger

About Me

I am a writer, or I am trying to be. Literacy is a never ending learning curve. I will be posting my printed work in my blog’s, if anyone is interested, check em out and leave me an opinion. And now, on to my least favorite subject, me, sometimes I feel like I am a million years old. There times when I hate humanity so much that I wish we would all burn up in a nuclear war, then other times I will see a moment of such beauty that I can not speak and am totally overwhelmed. I have tried for years to fit in, only to find out that there is no real norm, which probably explains why I get along with the fringe elements of society. I have been a lot of things, seen strangeness and horror, and traveled to parts of the world that many people would never see in a couple of lifetimes. My ancestry, I have a strange family lineage. The most I have gone back for direct lineage is the year 1086. His name was Turstin Filius Widonis; he was an Angle lord near Norfolk, England. He is the first with my last name, and it was granted as title to him. He changed his name to Thurstin FitzGuy and de Quarles was added on. There is very little documentation on the Quarles family in England until the 1400’s and after. The progenitor of my surname in North America arrived here in 1607 at Jamestown, Virginia and is on the Second Virginia Charter. There are knights, and Lords and Ladies in my family as well as war heroes, famous writers, and historical figures. There are even historical markers and monuments to us around the state. I am related to Mark Twain and Audrey Hepburn. My relation to Audrey was through the Van Ufford Quarles, Dutch nobility. The Bad Stuff Well, now we are on to other things. I am me; I am the sum parts of my bizarre life. Here are some of the events that have made me what I am today. I have been shot at. I have been stabbed, by my mom’s horrid boyfriend. Speaking of which, her succession of boyfriends, and Mister Stabber, warped my sister and I beyond all help with beatings, verbal abuse, and variety of cruel acts. My pets have been burned alive, drowned and one of them was shot off a fence post as I was watching. I have seen my sister beaten, her nose hit so hard it split open, her ear nearly torn off, and then tried to support her even though she went back to her horrible boyfriends. While I was over seas, I saw a man get his brains blown out by a soldier. I saw a boy shot to death and had to sit there and not move, lest I draw attention to myself. I have seen people abducted off the street and nobody did anything. I saw a family burn up in a station wagon and I can still smell it. I have survived 16 car wrecks, 3 motorcycle crashes, buried many friends, a little brother, my father and most of my family. I have caught my girlfriends cheating on me, walked in on it, let them make me feel bad and take the blame and take them back. I have had a girlfriend drive me to 3 suicide attempts. She got an abortion with my credit card and I did not find out till I got the bill. The Good Stuff Okay, if you have gone this far, then you can see that everything is not a lump of cold poison served with a spiked fist into my head. Here are some of the good things that have happened to me. I was once truly in love. In the mornings I would wake up next her, in that glorious tangle of limbs and pleasant soreness from intense sex, and felt her heartbeat and soft breath and not been able to tell if it was my heart or hers beating. We would not even have to speak to each other and knew what the other was thinking. I have seen beautiful sights. Jungles verdant and seething with life, I have cracked a coconut open in the early afternoon and drank its sweet juice, as I watched the sun set on the Caribbean ocean with my father. I have been to Patagonia and watched whales cresting and slapping their tales in the ocean, been close enough to penguins to see them clumsily toddle to the waters edge and then dive in, and I have seen ostriches tear across the plains. I have painted and drawn, written stories that have moved people, and told jokes that had people laughing so hard they cried. I have run for public office. I have helped the homeless. I am a scholar and an academic. I am a lot of things, and I do not apologize for anything nor do I ask for pity, I just am.div class="modmyprofileDOTcom"

My Interests

I love working on old hot rod cars. I love to write and I am also into RPG gaming. I paint gaming figures when I have the time. I am actually a play tester for Wizards of the Coast. I enjoy nature, and especially traveling. I have been to other countries, lived in the Caribbean for two years and I have even been to South America.

I'd like to meet:

I am usually so full of murderous rage toward stupid people or in such a despondent state of depression over the human condition that I cannot connect to people. When I do connect it is usually with individuals of a creative nature or eccentrics.

Music:

I love old metal and hard rock. I like a lot of modern metal, punk also and even some operas.

Movies:

Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Animae, war movies and Horror films appeal to me. I like old thrillers especially Hitchcock's work. I have also come to believe that the movie "The Devil's Rejects" is one of the greatest horror movie homage ever made.To actually make a list of what I have seen and like would be a huge undertaking, here is a smattering of what I like, The Planet of the Apes series and the majority of all early sci-fi movies, especially Krubricks work. Vincent Price movies, Tim Burton, Gangster films, including the English gangster flicks. Fight Club!!!, The Seven Samurai, Cowboy be-Boop, Ghost in a Shell, Samurai Champloo, Donni Darko, the un-cut Kingdom of Heaven, The 13th Warrior, The Conqueror Worm and the list goes on and on... movies

Television:

I watch mostly cartoon network (Adult Swim, what a hoot), the history channel, and the Sci-fi channel.I watch Twilight Zone and Outer Limits marathons when I can catch them.I have nearly all of Lexx, Farscape, and Brimstone series in my enormous media collection. As far as current series, I think Battle Star Galactica is the best adult sci- fi series in many a year, but I think Stargate has gone way past it's prime. I am also addicted to Lost.

Books:

I am a voracious reader. I love classics, and modern writing. Stephen King is my favorite modern writer.I also like J.K. Rowling, although she could cut a few adverbs. Neil Gaiman, Terry Pratchett, William King, and Dan Abbett are also on my reading list.As far as classics, I like the writings of Dante, Tolkien, Dickens (when I was a kid), Twain, Borge, and all Southern Gothics, especially Poe.I have even read parts of the Necronomicon, but I hate with a purple passion the insipid Narnia chronicles. If hate were people, I would be China as far as Narnia is concerned. I also am a huge comic book freak.

Heroes:

All paths of glory lead but to the grave.
