Born to a Dutch clogmaker and a Ugandan beauty queen in 1971, Kevin David Reay spent his early childhood in Burma. Reay attended various academic institutions in Europe, gaining degrees in Old Norse, Astrophysics and Neuroscience. After brief careers as a goatherd in the foothills of Mt. Wilhelm, Papua New Guinea and a bookseller in Slough, he decided to dedicate his life to organic farming. It is for this and his outspoken support for renewable sources of energy that Reay was awarded his first Nobel Prize in 1997. In 2001 he spent six months orbiting Pluto as part of "Project: R.O.S.E.B.U.D." returning to Earth to form "NewHormones," an underground organisation of radical neobioterraformists. Moving to Beijing, Reay worked with a panel of world-class thinkers, linguists and architects that made up the now defunct pan-Asian group Y.M.O. In his bestselling first novel, "Army of One" (Booker Prize Shortlist, 2003) and its sequel, "Angel of Death" (Whitbread Prize Winner, 2004), Reay unleashed what Salman Rushdie described as a "breathtaking narrative of delicate sophistication, bravery and philosophic depth" (The Observer, Sept., 2004). While these works created a hailstorm of controversy in the English and Fukanese literary communities, Reay gained a second Nobel Prize for "Angel" in 2006. Giving up the finer things in life to be a visual artist, Reay presently lives a semi-reclusive existence in Brooklyn, New York, where he has lived since 2005.
