John Toth is a haircutter,illustrator,D.J. and make-up artist living in N.Y.C. He trained at Vidal Sassoon's in London(for haircutting and color) and Antenna,London(for hair extensions). He moved to N.Y.C. in 1991(where after a brief gig working for Vidal Sassoon)began doing wigs and make-up(for various drag queens and "showgirls") at "The House of Field"(Patricia Field's original 8th st store). From there he started to do fashion/editorial work, assisted a top make-up artist and worked with just about every major fashion photographer there is including Helmut Newton and Richard Avedon,as well as doing make-up for many fashion shows. He then began to work on his own, doing body painting for Steven Klein and make-up for magazines such as "The Face","Visionaire" and "Luomo Vogue".During all this time (while concentrating and focusing on his illustration work more seriously),he met the brilliant people behind the legendary nightclub "Jackie 60" and started showing his drawings there in the form of flyers, slide projections and posters stuck up on the walls. Other shows at nightclubs followed including: "The Sound Factory","Pork","The Lure" and "Click and Drag". An avid club go-er and huge fan of house music,he taught himself to beat mix and began d.j.ing. His d.j. gigs have varied from private parties and places including "B-Bar" and "The David Barton Gym" to corporate and charity events such as "Toys For Tots".Now he does bit of everything; Still regularly cutting hair, occasionally a d.j. or make-up gig and constantly sketching designs for his t-shirt/accessories line, simply called: JOHN TOTH.
