Otherwise I read...
YAY - John Irving - Got to love him. My friend once said, he writes about all the weird things that are going on in your head, but you never talk about. My favourite is the Hotel New Hampshire, and the World According to Garp, both of which were actually made into cheesy hollywood movies.
Ernest Hemmingway, and W. Somerset Maughm (great short stories and novels from both of them - easier to digest both of them in short story format)
Others i read recently that I liked:
1984 - George Orwell,
A Brave New World - Aldous Huxley,
The Count of Monte Cristo - Alexandre Dumas,
High Society - Ben Elton,
Bonfire of the Vanities - Tom Wolfe (Brilliant),
The Talented Mr Ripley - I forget the author's name,
Well I like people who decide to sod their "do the right thing" careers and go and do something that they just really enjoy and make it.
e.g. the guy who invented the Freebord. (www.freebord.com) who took his passion for snowboarding, and his knowledge of engineering and created something that he was really interested in, and made money out of it.
And that guy Burton, from Burton snowboards, who invented something, and through all the negativity & slope bans fought to make it into a multinational business, and created a new sport. He spends his days travelling the world, testing his new boards out in some of the best powder around the globe. Now that I could do!
