Broadway Blake was born in Newark, NJ. This is where he would build a love for the world of hip- hop. In the mid-90s Broadway would stay up late nights listening to the tunes of some of the most influential hip-hop artist of our time. But it wasn't until the late 90s when he would begin his quest of mastering the art of rhyming. Being a shy kid around that time, Broadway Blake was amazed that he could express himself in so many ways through his lyrics. This is where he learned that he can smile, cry, and show every other emotion that was going through his body by using America's new number 1 form of language. "After going through the things that I went through growing up, I thought I had no more tears left". states Blake. "But it was the music that helped me cry in another form." Being inspired by hip-hop greats like Tupac, Notorious B.I.G, Jay- Z, and Nas, Blake decided that he didn't just want to be another good rapper, but he wanted to be mentioned in the same sentence as the greats one day. "Don't get me confused, but 16 for 16 I feel like I can last with the best of them, but at the end of they day I would love to make a record that sends the message of "Keep Ya Head Up" by Tupac, or "One Mic" by Nas, and still turn around and drop a respectable commercial hit", Adds Blake.
Being conscious of the power that hip-hop has on the world Blake has even challenged himself to stop the usage of the n-word through his lyrics. He also is trying to challenge himself to be commercially conscious of the message he sends through his music by trying to tone down glorifying the things that he think is killing the urban community. Blake adds. "Trust me I'm not perfect, because I know alcohol is poisoning our communities but I still continue to drink and participate in events where drinking seems like it's the hot trend of our time. But I'm aware of what I'm doing and I try to grow everyday. I'm not mad at the people who aren't aware, I'm just mad at the people who know they're sending a negative message across and then when they're called on it, they don't want to acknowledge that they're doing something wrong." While Blake is battling these issues inside of himself, he stills finds ways to please his street listeners through his lyrics by just staying true to his hip-hop roots. In the summer of 2004 he launched his "IF NOT ME THEN WHO?" mixtape series.The series has helped Blake garner a local following which he hopes can lead to some national attention.Blake is also in process of building a strong team for his label Uh-O Entertainment with hopes of releasing his full length debut album titled, "I Need A Beat". Blake describes the album as his personal audio book. The album features the acapella classic "I Need A Beat" and Blake's personal favorite record "Shorty's Story" and The first single "Na Mean". With the commercial appeal of everyone's favorite major pop star and the consciousness of everyone's favorite back-pack rapper, "Broadway Blake" has the potential to have a lasting career in the music biz. But as history has proved, potential does not mean a sure shot for success. "I need to get their ear before I can get their heart. So I'm going to grind as hard as I can to do that".
