Herschêl (né Spyda Boon) is a rare ingenious and prolific, emcee/singer/song writer, who blends Hip Hop, Dancehall, Folk, UK Garage, and World music with finesse. With his catchy hooks, distinctive sound, banging beats, and social awareness, Herschêl is definitely on his way to becoming a household name. And his stunning model looks don't hurt the package either. Now you're probably wondering, "where have I seen this dude before?" Thats because for years this young emcee has been gracing the pages of magazines, billboards, and commercials as a model and actor. Herschêl, who started modeling and acting at 15 can be seen in the NAACP Image Award nominated drama, "Justice" with Roger G Smith (Poetic Justice, Get On the Bus), and Monica Calhoun (The Players Club, The Best Man) available at Best Buy*. Herschêl can also be seen in magazine ad campaigns, and in-store signage for clients such as Xbox, Target, Marshall Fields, Macys, Sam Goody, Best Buy, VW Jetta, and Lids to name a few. But his true and number one passion is music.
Raised by a single West Indian mother along with two older siblings in Minneapolis, MN, Herschêl would spend his summers on his mothers native island of St. Croix US Virgin Islands, where he developed a love for Caribbean music. "Caribbean and African music is in my blood. Its under my skin, my birth rite... And Hip Hop, yo thats my first love! I'm about to bridge the gap between World Beat and the mainstream..." Effortlessly so, the young emcee goes from singing and rapping to feverishly chatting like a seasoned king of the dancehall. One would find it impossible to sit still when a Herschel track fills the speakers. When asked about the current state of hip hop and pop music Herschêl retorts, "Man, everybody in the industry is playing a mean game of follow the leader. When did that become cool? [Pauses] But what can I say? I love hip hop. I am hip hop! It helped raise me..." And raised him well~ Herschêl's live show is nothing short of amazing, with the energy, enchantment, and skill reminiscent of Will-I-Am/Wyclef Jean. "I'm so hungry for this Its all I've ever wanted to do. The world hasn't heard anything like this before," declares the self assured wordsmith, when asked about his pursuit of getting a record deal. After listening to his EP, I feel he is just what the world needs to quench the undying thirst for real music. Callista Ledesma
