The band originated in 2004 with two goals in mind: getting signed and conquering popular radio. So called “Nu-Metal†was the flavor of the month and the founding members of the band, Hugo and Richard, along with producer/engineer Jake, focused on hip-hop/rock, formulaic music. Soon they realized that their talent level far exceeded the low expectations they initially placed on themselves as artists. The desire to be more creative became the driving force in their songwriting. What came to be are songs filled with raw emotion, influenced by a plethora of artists. Still radio-friendly, the newer songs maintain a respectable level of uniqueness. With Hugo bowing out as a creative member (but not as a staunch supporter), new band mates (Gary, Mike, and Ivan), and a name change, Loss of Inertia have reemerged as a fine-tuned musical force ready to establish new norms in the hard rock genre. With influences stemming from metal (Meshuggah) to grunge (Nirvana) to even a hint of emo (Weezer), LOI take pride in the idea that there is no one label to restrict them. This is partially due to the fact that the members are all veterans of the underground New York City rock scene. Richard and Mike have been in bands, like punk outfit Silent Skream and Spanish-rockers Sapien, since early high school, enjoying marginal success with the latter. Gary played a huge role, both creatively and as a leader, in Evoria-a no-holds barred rap core juggernaut. The grunge-based Wired were anchored by LOI’s bass player, Ivan.In a short time, Loss of Inertia has already gone through an extensive maturing process. All this has done is fueled them to new musical heights. Heights that eventually will appear in a rearview mirror.
