I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

I am a rather dorky psychology undergrad and former music major with very little musical talent… though musicians surround me every day.

My Interests

Recording, Engineering, Guitar, Keyboards, Piano, Violin, Politics (differing perspectives), Reading, Anxiety Disorders, Counseling, Volunteerism, and Whiskey.

I'd like to meet:

I am trying to find some new music (not as far as year, but just what is unfamiliar to me)… so if you have any ideas, I will certainly appreciate the suggestions. Please do not subject me to popular radio though… being somewhat an elitist, I have a very low tolerance for any of it. I will most certainly try out bands that are even somewhat similar to the ones I have listed. Suggestions on books will also be appreciated, especially regarding counseling or anything else psych related. Engineering tips are most certainly welcome. I will hopefully be adding some of my own music in the near future… believe me, I will be as frightened to add it as you will be to hear it. Nonetheless, feedback of any sort will work.

Music:

(This will continue to grow considerably) Must begin with Bob Dylan, Disguise The Sky, Deadpan Alley, Brodie Stove, Alan Yates Band, Three 5 Human, Surly Pop, Twittering Machine, Daysahead, Good Friday Experiment, Five-Eight, Neutral Milk Hotel, Olivia Tremor Control, Of Montreal, Tenement Halls, Rock*A*Teens, Drive By Truckers, R.E.M., Eluvium, Stars of the Lid, Sigur Rós, Clear Horizon, Guided By Voices, Explosions in the Sky, Mazzy Star, Sade, Miles Davis, Coltrane, Monk, Brubeck, Cannonball and Nat Adderley, Duke and Wynton Marsalis (no offense to Branford), James Brown, Ray Charles, Nine Simone, Billie Holiday, Cash, Nelson, Hank Williams Sr. and III (yes, I am skipping him for obvious reasons), Jóhann Jóhannsson, Brian Eno, Elliott Smith, Max Richter, My Bloody Valentine, E.A.R., Fugazi, Mudhoney, Dinosaur Jr., Mike Watt, Sebedoh, Lucero, Loose Fur, Wilco, Sunvolt, The Velvet Underground, The Clash, Dead Kennedys, Mogwai, Mum, Neu!, My Morning Jacket, Neil Young, Slowdive, Sparklehorse, Spacemen 3, Spiritualized, Mojave 3, Jeff and Tim Buckley, Low, Jennifer Bailiff, Hope Sandoval and the Warm Inventions, Sonic Youth, Tom Waits, Stina Nordenstam, Bjork, The Dead Texan, Labradford, Loscil, Steely Dan, Elvis Costello, Bill Frisell, Peter Gabriel, Radiohead, The Beatles, The Stones, Stone Roses, Ride, Yo La Tengo, Medicine, R.L. Burnside, Junior Kimbrough, Muddy Waters, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Alejandro Escovedo, Ryan Adams, Whiskeytown, Beta Band, Graham Parson, Flying Burrito Brothers, Stereolab, Talking Heads, The Verve, Curtis Mayfield, The Impressions, Beck, Creation, Jesus and Mary Chain, Portishead, The Roots, Common, Redman, Wu-Tang, Black Moon, …

Movies:

I have a few favorites: The Verdict, Lost in Translation, Heat (Pacino, not Reynolds), Serpico, Sleeper, Unforgiven, French Connection, Waiting for Guffman, Rushmore, Bottle Rocket, Take The Money and Run, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Animal House, Casablanca, Arthur, Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid, Blazing Saddles; and for my all time favorite… Little Nicky – only kidding… how anyone could watch that waste of blood (Sandler) or anyone as pointless as someone who is in P.O.S. movies like that one is, and fortunately, way beyond me.

Television:

I am trying to cut this out as much possible… however, Law & Order is an addiction, as are to a lesser degree sports, movies I have seen dozens of times, City Confidential, and Adult Swim… what in the hell happened to Space Ghost?

Books:

I'll only bother you with a few: The Grapes of Wrath, Slapstick, Revenge of the Lawn, The Rum Diaries, Race Matters, Either/Or, The Subterraneans, Breakfast of Champions, The Gift of Therapy, Crime and Punishment, An Essay Concerning the Principles of Morals, Raise High the Roofbeam – Carpenters, This Band Could Be Your Life, and much more of the same…

Heroes:

I am not sure they would be personally defined as heroes, but Mr. Dylan and my stepfather, Wayne, would most fit the description.

Self-aggrandizing: a labor of love (and hate)

Here's something entirely indicative of why scientific research should be left to those who are not influenced by political gains, as well as why I rarely get out much. It is massive, but it may ...
