Obie

Hey, you are viewing the page of the one and only, Obie Gereau. I am a 22-year-old saxophone player. I originally hail from the great city of D.C., but currently I am living and working in Hartford, CT. I currently am the Musical Director at the Artists Collective in Hartford, a great institution founded by my teacher and my inspiration, Jackie McLean. At the Artists Collective, my students are my life. Big-Up to all YJO members, you know how we do.Outside the Collective, I am a working musician. I have performed all around Hartford, New York, and D.C. at various venues. Highlights include Havanna Jazz Festival 2000 and numerous East Coast Jazz Festivals with the Fred Foss Jazz orchestra. I have opened for the Black-eyed Peas at the University of Hartford with the New Jazz Workshop, Gary Thomas's Elixir's Gate at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore with the Kush Abbadey Quartet, and have opened for John Brown's Body at Colby College. I also have opened for and graced the stage with Steve Davis, Nat Reeves, Dezron Douglas; to name a few. In the summer of 2003, I played with a band called Soul Experience, which performed around New York City, notably the CBGB Gallery on the Lower East Side. I have also recorded with the Billy Powell Gospel Group on his second album, "Church Boy 2".
