The O-GeReAu Experience

Hey everyone, thank you for visiting. Here's a little info on the band.
My name is Obie Gereau and I am the band leader. I am a 23-year-old saxophone player. I originally hail from the great city of D.C., but currently I am living and working in Hartford, CT. I currently am the Musical Director at the Artists Collective in Hartford, a great institution founded by my teacher and my inspiration, Jackie McLean. At the Artists Collective, my students are my life. Big-Up to all YJO members, you know how we do.
Outside the Collective, I am a working musician. I have performed all around Hartford, New York, and D.C. at various venues. Highlights include Havanna Jazz Festival 2000 and numerous East Coast Jazz Festivals with the Fred Foss Jazz orchestra. I have opened for the Black-eyed Peas in 2004 with the New Jazz Workshop and Common with my group Big Nickel, both at the University of Hartford, Elixir's Rise featuring Gary Thomas and Terri Lynn-Carrington at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore with the Kush Abbadey Quartet, and have opened for John Brown's Body at Colby College. I also have opened for and graced the stage with Steve Davis, Nat Reeves, Dezron Douglas, and Alan Palmer; to name a few. In the summer of 2003, I played with a band called Soul Experience, which performed around New York City, notably the CBGB Gallery on the Lower East Side. I have also recorded and have been featured on video recordings with the Doobie and Billy Powell Gospel Groups, notably with Bily on his second album, "Church Boy 2" and Doobie Powell's Live DVD in 2007. I also perform with a great singer named Charmagne who hosts "The Love Jones Experience".
Usually I like to either play with a quartet or quintet, but I am known to do different band setups. I have many different musicians that i like to call my band members and usually I rotate the band. My core group (the band that I play with the most) comprises of Sean Clapis (Guitar), Jovan Alexandre (Tenor), Dezron Douglas or Seth Lewis (bass), and Joseph Palmer or Jonathan Barber(drums). I also have many special guests that also perform with me. Alan Palmer (piano), Terrence Kerr (Trumpet), Lummie Spann (Sax), and Josh Evans (Trumpet), and Jovan Alexadre to name a few. I also love to give the opportunity to my students to play outside of the Collective.
Right now, The O-GeReAu Experience is frequenting the Connecticut area at clubs, bars, restaurants. Our band has had most success at a venue called Tisane, located in Hartford, which we perform at regularly. We have also linked up with a group called Kevedi Entertainment which holds shows monthly at the Hilton of Downtown Hartford.
