Now...have you been looking for something EXCITING to do in garb? Feeling that urge to go Medieval lately? We are gearing up for our 2008 season!Be escorted back through time and history to the Romantic age of Geoffrey Chaucer at the Third annual Acadiana Medieval Faire in 2008. The Acadiana Medieval faire is a recreation of a Medieval spring market faire similar to those found during the late Gothic period of continental Europe. Historically these faires were seasonal and most towns had at least two a year. The spring faire season also marked the beginning of the pilgrimage season. On your visit to the Acadiana Medieval Faire your will encounter lively characters from Chaucer's Canterbury Tales on their journey to the shrine of St. Thomas a Becket. Explore their tales as you shop in a unique Medieval-style market place, listen to authentic early music, watch a show from the Middle Ages, or indulge in the spicy food that is the trade mark of Cajun Country. The third annual Acadiana Medieval Faire will be held

Music:

Istanpitta is a United States based ensemble performing music of the tenth to fourteenth century Middle Ages including many traditional Middle Eastern dances. The ensemble consists of three to five musicians playing a variety of period instruments including Oud, Lute, Saz, Early Percussion, Shawms, Renaissance Recorders, Transverse Flutes, Krummhorns, Vielles, Medieval Harp and Bagpipes.L'Ensemble Cercamon In the manner of the troubadour whose name the Ensemble has borrowed, Cercamon makes their art known both on stage, and among throngs of music-lovers while incorporating new sounds in their quest for unique musical experiences. Their creations exploit exceptional tones, produced by instruments from other periods and other lands, oriental as well as occidental. Hurdy-gurdy, oud, rauschpfeife, saz and bouzouki...all working together to yield a truly novel blend of music. The Bedlam Bards is a musical group with two-and-a-half members; that is to say, usually there's two of them, but sometimes there's three. They play "Renfolk Music," that unique blend of Celtic, English, Scandinavian, and American folk music mixed in with period tunes from the Renaissance and Middle Ages that rubs shoulders with the occasional incognito rock song at most Renaissance festivals. And they have a lot of fun playing it. Congratulations to the Bedlam Bards for winning first place in the 2nd Annual Renaissance Festival Performer Awards in two categories! Best New CD of 2006 with their "On the Drift" CD, and Best Music Group of 2006!Their instruments include guitar, fiddle, mandola, bones, bodhran, pocket fiddle, pennywhistle, guitarron, mandolin, strumstick, kazoo, and voice.Lady Morrighan Apsara is one of the most popular and dynamic tribal dancers in the region! Lady Morrighan dances her way through life, speaking to all in the mystical, silent language of traditional tribal dance. As a performer and teacher, she has dazzled audiences and students all across the United States. Lady Morrighan is winner of numerous awards of distinction including placement as Third Alternate in the 2006 National Fusion Belly Dancer of the Universe competition. She will be performing traditional gypsy and tribal dancing typical of Chaucer's time and is the special guest of The Vitsa Hokano Baro, the Official Tribe of the Acadiana Medieval Faire. Don't miss a moment of her magic!Patrick Brown - His repertoire is Medieval European music, transEuropean, including the Cantigas from Northern Spain and the Lanquedoc/Midi, i.e. 'The Land of the Troubadors,' music from the Auvergne area of Central France, some old English, French and Italian pieces and also some Mid Eastern sounding pieces too, of Moorish and/or Asian Minor origin. He uses a Hungarian style hurdy gurdy known as a Tekerolant. It is quite loud, and carries well outdoors. It indeed developed in the church, in its earliest forms.

Heroes:

The Vitsa Hokano Baro is a cultural, entertainment and social group comprised of and dedicated to people who love the history, culture, folklore, magick and entertainment arts of the Romani peoples - the Gypsies. The Vitsa Hokano Baro is the Official Tribe of the Acadiana Medieval Faire in beautiful Grand Coteau, Louisiana. The tribe, founded by our beloved Gypsy Queen, Sorcha Puridai , is proud to be affiliated with Lady Morrighan Apsara as Tribal Dance Elder. It is not necessary to be of actual Romani descent to join this Vitsa. All that is necessary is a love of all things Gypsy! If you would like more information on the gypsies or would like to join in the life of this wonderful people and, through our efforts, preserve a culture and history that is fast disappearing in the modern world, please contact leader Alyne Pustanio .The Vitsa will actively participate in bringing true Gypsy life and culture to the masses by participating in numerous Medieval, Renaissance, Celtic, Pirate and other period festivals and public events across Louisiana and the Southeastern United States.
Master Blacksmith Trenton Tye is shown here performing demonstrations of fire and metal at AMF 2007. Taught by his mentor, the legendary Jay Reakirt, Trent pursues a life of tradition in smithing and shares his skill...and his gleaming smile...with audiences young and old. A must-see!SCA fighters of the Shire of Trollfen will engage in historical combat. Experience a sampling of Medieval life with the Society for Creative Anacromism as they display their talents for dancing, spinning, weaving, black work and carving.Mistress Melandra is a performance artist who brings a multi-media hands-on approach to life in the Middle Ages from a woman's point of view. Her progam "Life in a Castle" includes demonstrations of spinning, weaving and dyeing interspersed with tranditional Medieval songs, stories and more.Enjoy the tastes, sights and sounds of a re-enacted Norman village brought to life by members of the Normans of the Southern Sun.Hobgolin Hill Puppets is a traveling troupe begun in 1987 by Alice Wallace in Youngsville, LA with a unique style of han-carved and sculpted puppets in researched historic costumes. From that time, the group has brought puppetry to festivals, libraries, museums, schools, parks, zoos, and parties in Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, and of course, Louisiana.
