Formed in Sep 1989 by Hempa Brynolfsson (guitars & bass), Per Ax (drums) & Johan Melander (guitars). From the ashes of CRUCIFIED and other bands, EXCRUCIATE was now born.
In April 1990 they recorded their classic "Mutilation Of The Past" demo. As they didn't have a vocalist at that time they got help from Christoffer Johnsson (THERION), and he did a really good job behind the microphone. After the recording they got two new members, Freddan Isaksson (bass) and Christian Carlsson (vocals). The demo got very good reviews in the underground movement.
In Jan 1991 they recorded 5 new tracks for their next demo to be entitled "Hymns Of Mortality", but they got contacted by INFEST RECORDS (Fra) and offered to do a Split-Lp together with EPITAPH. So 4 tracks were chosen and the Split-Lp was released in mid 1991. Again they got very good reviews around the world.
At the same time as the release of the Split-Lp they were contacted by THRASH RECORDS (Fra) and offered to do a full length album. So in Oct 1991 they entered SUNLIGHT STUDIOS and recorded "Passage Of Life", 8 brutal tracks of Death Metal. Just before the recordings a new vocalist joined the band, Lars Levin (MASTICATION, NECROLOGY).
In Feb 1992 Johan Melander left the band and Janne Rudberg (EXHUMED, MASTICATION) joined. The Cd "Passage Of Life" was supposed to be released in mid 1992, but wasn't released until mid 1993.
Between 1989 and 1993 EXCRUCIATE played live with bands like THERION, AT THE GATES, MORPHEUS, OPETH, AFFLICTED, DISMEMBER, CROWLEY, STIGMATA, EPITAPH, DESULTORY, UNANIMATED and tons more.
After the release of "Passage Of Life" Cd the band took a long break, Hempa Brynolfsson joined INTERNAL DECAY and later formed MYKORRHIZA. Freddan Isaksson joined THERION and thereafter GRAVE.
10 new EXCRUCIATE tracks are soon ready to be recorded.
