About Me

........................................By the ending of 2006, Obiwon had emerged as one of Nigeria’s hottest and most promising r’n’b acts with the release of his debut album, OVERTURE.Prior to this Obi had been a member of the award-winning HipHop collective, the Thorobreds and had worked his way through a circuit of shows in eastern Nigeria where he grew up. The need to fully express himself and his style as an r’n’b artiste would eventually lead to the pursuit of a solo career with the release of the Get ‘Em Up EP earlier on in 2005.With the garnering momentum, Obi went ahead to drop OVERTURE in July 2006, spawning off hot favourites on local radio and television such as Get ‘Em Off Me, Streetz Of Lagos and the emotive hit ballad, Onyinye. The buzz from Overture would eventually compel Obi to leave an initial day job as a bank officer to focus on a growing musical career. In March 2007, Obiwon received the stamp of critical acclaim with four nominations at the prestigious HipHop World Awards, where he was crowned with the award for Best Vocal Performance Male for his hit track Onyinye.Obi’s skills were further certified at the return of the Nigerian Music Awards in May 2007, as he was honoured with the award for Voice Of The Decade Male. 2007 has also seen him gaining more ground and acclaim as an electrifying stage performer and entertainer.OVERTURE PLUS, the EP follow up to Obi's smash debut is bound to break new grounds for the entertainer. "At 5 I started singing along to HipHop and RnB recordings from by elder brother's tape deck. I grew up in Enugu the Coal City, somewhere in Eastern Nigeria. At 15 I started trying my hands at songwriting, performing and since then I haven't stopped. All that striving and passion has given birth to my style. I like to call it African R'n'B or "Jdimusic" especially as my cultural orientation plays a role in shaping my sound. Jdimusic is also the name of my independent production outfit.I'm the third born in a family of four. My Dad, Sir Humphrey Nwokolobia-Agu, is a renowned Folk/Classical music composer and arranger from Eastern Nigeria. My musical influences include Michael Jackson, R.Kelly, Boyz II Men, Alicia Keys, John Legend, nigerian highlife artistes such as the late maestros Osita Osadebe and Celestine Ukwu and so many others.I'm also a part of the HipHop collective known as the Thorobreds of the StreetHop Fame.In 2001 I graduated from University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) with a second class upper in Agric. Extension. I migrated to Lagos in 2002 and worked for 4 years in a bank, before leaving to focus fully on my music career.I'm living my dream."[email protected] [email protected] 234-803-343-8458 234-01-874-1863mspmb allowScriptAccess="never" allownetworking="internal" src="http://lads.myspace.com/slides/slideshow_random.swf?u=1 01429730" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="426"
