About Me

Artistic, eclectic, altruistic, sort of. I have my political opinions but I keep my mouth shut, since no one I ever met wants to hear them. I'm a published poet and illustrator, I've sung opera professionally, I create my own art, but admire others. See how much you know already...

My Interests

My interests change about every 10 days. I enjoy art, all kinds of music, new and different foods, going to the opera, wine, goth culture, and discovering abandoned relics and roads.

I'd like to meet:

I'd like to meet Susie, Elyzabeth, Jimmy Buffett, and Apnea. And even though I've already met her, I'd like to meet Tristen again.Already met a few interesting people. I paint portraits of the ones I find truly fascinating. Check my Pics page for the ones I've done already. I'll post more as I get them scanned.

Music:

Ira Stein, Tristen, Jewel, Salvatore Licitra, Andreas Scholl, Black Tape For a Blue Girl, Verdi, Puccini, Jimmy Buffett, INXS, REM, U2, The Cure, Gin Blossoms, Mozart. Lots more. Too many to list. My radio is by default permanently set on Chicago's classical station, and I rarely change it.

Movies:

Remains of the Day, Amadeus, A Room With a View, 84 Charing Cross Road, Under the Tuscan Sun. Any European period piece.

Television:

British sit-coms. Fawlty Towers, Monty Python, Good Neighbors, Black Adder, Mr Bean, No Honestly, BBC America's Whose Line Is It Anyway?American sit-coms: Mad About You. Frazier. American Dramas: Navy NCIS, any CSI, Law and Order.

Books:

Mickey Spillane's Mike Hammer. Any Route 66 books. Nick Bantock's Griffin and Sabine series, anything with pictures.

Heroes:

To me a hero is someone who saves my life, and that's the nurses and doctors of Central DuPage Hospital's ER. If they hadn't been there, I'd be dead, thanks to a nasty case of food poisoning. Thanks for giving me the rest of my life, CDHER.

The Seduction of The Mother Road

Having moved to Joliet in the southwest suburbs of Chicago in early 2005, I was relieved to be only 5 miles from my workplace, and seeing my 2 1/2 hour daily commute decreased to 10 minutes eac...

National Insomnia Week, and I'm celebrating all night long!

One thing that truly pisses me purple is trouble sleeping.  I don't know what the hell I ate or drank today to keep me so wired at 1:30 on a Thursday morning, but it really puts a hitch in my wee...

'Tis better to have loved and lost a restaurant, than never to have loved at all........dammit!

Anyone who knows me knows that one of my favorite haunts is anywhere on 3rd Street in Geneva.  Shops full of wine, food, home decor, restaurants, I like stuff like that.  On June 24th, two o...
