About Me

Márcio Mello is a unique artist in the Brazilian rock scenery. While the Brazilian rock music, in general, follows a path which is distant from the Brazilian music itself and loses its personal style when trying to imitate the greatest hits around the world, Márcio Mello is different. He has this tradition of being original in the first place and then fitting his work in the rock language. His music portrays a very natural format of rock music for being appropriated for this energy and that is his real goal, which makes his music even more powerful. Márcio Mello owns some beautiful love songs, which deserve to be recorded by João Gilberto, for its greatness in lyrics and melody. Few artists in Brazil make music in the style that he has been doing so far, without losing the capacity of express himself. He is a professional who chose a format of music to serve his personal intentions, not to fit in a musical gender. This comes as a result of a long career, which started in the 80’s, when Brazilian rock was at its height. In this context, famous bands such as Blitz, Barão Vermelho, Titãs and Rabo de Saia were a big hit. Rabo de Saia brings the irreverence of this decade, a vocalist (Márcio Mello) and three women (one of them is Lanlan, who has a solo career nowadays; and the other is Érica, who was vocalist of Brazilian group Penélope and still is a bassist, following important MPB artists). At this time, they released the album “Singles” which had a hit: “Amor destrambelhado”. This single is part of the album "Singles" from Warner (one of the first compilation album featuring remastered works of Charles Gavin), which provides a broad view of the 80’s Brock, along with Ultraje a rigor, Gang 90, Fausto Fawcett. Soon after, in 1995, when the musical market became professional in Bahia, Márcio released his first solo album: “Pop-chumbado”. It is good humored, contextualized with the contemporary time, but also presents some of the elements that are going to be explored ahead, eventhough it is way different from Marcio’s recent works. He is a strong personality artist, and is completely emerged in his professional life. After the so mentioned first solo album, comes “Toneladas de Amor”, in 1997, containing lots of his greatest songs and drawing attention of important artists such as Caetano Veloso, Nando Reis among others. So Daniela Mercury decides to record “Nobre Vagabundo”, an important song that makes her career take flight, reassuring once for all Axé music. Another song from Márcio Mello recorded by Daniela in the same album was “Bandeira Flor”. From this time on, he begins to be a present composer in Daniela’s career. However he keeps going with his amazing career and in 1999, Márcio releases an album that establishes himself as an artist. He achieves a faithful audience who crowds all of his presentations, turning him well known in bahiano rock in the initial years of the millennium. His style is already well defined, althought he is considered an eclectic artist, who has played in acoustic concerts and also in the so popular Bahia’s festival Carnival. Márcio is said to be the host of bahiano rock. Cássia Eller was another famous artist who adored Márcio’s works and recorded “Amor destrambelhado”. He participated on her concert in the last edition of Rock’n Rio and became a frequent company of Cássia, who started to sing his song “Cocorocô” in all of her concerts. This partnership was unfortunately interrupted by the singer’s death, but gave him the release of album “Punk Love”. After that, Márcio released another album “Tosco”, which was a very sophisticated and beautiful work, as typical of him. Soon came one more work “Poeta Extraordinário”, the same format of production, which included more eletronic elements of synthesizers. Finally, in 2005, he releases his latest album “Márcio Mello” which joins songs from all his career as well as unpublished ones. Still in the end of 2005, Daniella Mercury records “Toneladas de Amor”, but in a different version: more sophisticated and lovely. Márcio Mello is an incomparable and talented artist who creates an intense poetry and is also an owner of an adolescent heart, which reached maturity in music.
