About Me

I've always listened to the words. I enjoy the music, don't get me wrong. But I like to learn and I guess I never really learned much from the music. I've FELT things from the music, but those feelings were already inside me. I LEARNED from the words, I GREW from the words. My classroom was my family's living room. My teachers were found in my parent's record collection. Johnny Cash taught me that life was not going to be easy and that it was unfair, that people make mistakes, and that authority is not my friend...but God is. Frank Sinatra taught me that love was the only thing in life worth having, and that the pain that comes with it is a close second. Irving Berlin taught me about show business and told me there was no business like it, I believed him and he was right. The Beatles taught me that all you need is love, but while that may be true it's still extremely hard for four guys to get along for very long no matter what the circumstances. Bob Dylan taught me how to stand alone with the world questioning everything you do - he taught me how to spot a put on and a phony and that everything you think is happening only to you is really happening to lots of other people too. Listening to lyrics has taught me that the world in my imagination is just as real as the world outside, perhaps more so, and that I have a responsibility to share that world. I know that songwriters sometimes tell the truth...and sometimes songwriters lie...and sometimes songwriters lie to get to the truth...and if you don't listen to the words, and more importantly, the voice delivering the words, then you'll never know the difference. For further listening: 2005 Long Distance Call - "Yesterday's Gone" (Itunes) 2006 Long Distance Call - "Poor Nostalgic Me" (single) (Itunes) "Just to Make You Happy," "You Are Loved," and "Schenectedy" (8/2/07) from the Knitting Factory...thanks to Scott and Adam for the video...and a terrible hex on those who talk during acoustic shows. This is a demo called CANDIDATE for MAYOR! Thanks to Mr.Sumner!

A brief, enlightening conversation with Arlo Guthrie.

Now, I'm not endorsing the idea of making private messages public, but I'm doing so here for two reasons:1) To educate everyone on the life of a man whose song you've probably heard a time or two. The...
