He lived to drink. But all that changed one day when he was 28. He was broke; his weekly paycheck had already been passed to the bartender. He stood outside the pub for several hours, waiting for one of his friends to invite him in. No one did. He went home and told his mother: "I'm taking the pledge," to which she replied, "Don't take it if you can't keep it." With no A.A., no sponsor, no weekly meetings to attend, he had to rely on God alone. He found a way to sobriety that not only enabled him to give up drinking from that time on, but led him to adopt a way of life such that, at his death in 1925, word of his holiness spread throughout Ireland and his cause for canonization was begun almost immediately. He was declared venerable by Pope Paul VI in 1975. This is his story and his method. It has been set forth here to provide an answer to those for whom other programs have not worked or who have been looking for a way that addressed more specifically their own most deeply felt spiritual needs :::::::::::::::::: :::::::::::::::::::::: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matt_Talbot-------------------- ---------------------------------------Diario Del Che"Posted Friday, Jul. 12, 1968 When the Bolivian army summarily executed Che Guevara last October in a remote mountain town, soldiers found in his possession a diary chronicling the eleven-month guerrilla campaign that Che had expected to set the torch to Latin American revolution. Publishers from as far away as India flocked to La Paz, where the government had locked up the diary in a safe, to negotiate for the rights to print it. Last week Fidel Castro, Che's longtime comrade-in-arms and boss, pulled a publishing coup on all of them. He presented Che's diary to the world from Havana.:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::------------------------------- ---------------------------- History of the negro leaguesIn their heyday, the Negro Leagues were an important part of black America, with games between black teams drawing as many as 40,000 fans in some large cities, and the players themselves as celebrated as musicians like Louis Armstrong or Duke Ellington. Mark Ribowsky's concise history masterfully evokes these long-gone days with portraits of such Hall of Fame players as Satchel Paige, Josh Gibson and Cool Papa Bell. The story is bittersweet--though various incarnations of the Negro Leagues survived well into the 1950s, the end of the leagues was sealed when the Brooklyn Dodgers signed Jackie Robinson in 1945. ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::-------------------- ---------------------------------------Gangs of New YorkFive Points (or The Five Points) was a notorious slum centered on the intersection of Worth St. (originally Anthony St.), Baxter St. (originally Orange St.) and a now demolished stretch of Park St. on Manhattan island, New York City, New York, in the United States.::::::::::::::::::: :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: -----------------------------------------------------------P addy Whacked Many of the Irish who went to the bad were desperate men. They?d come from a background of famine or The Troubles, and they had nothing whatever to lose. In a Catholic culture where men are kings of the home scene, they didn?t have to answer to the little woman, and they had a weakness for drink that made a slide into crime bearable. If Paddy didn?t want to work on the railroad, the lure of Tammany Hall with its power-brokering and promise of pay-offs to the faithful beckoned, along with the simple of exercise of beating and bullying one?s fellow man. The gangs of New York, English makes clear, were an outcome of the political machinery, not the root of it. In the name of protecting the neighborhoods from the other bad guys, the Irish criminal gleefully imported drugs and thugs onto the local scene:::::::::::::::::::::::::::: ::::::::::::::::::::::

ICO MENDES
Francisco Alves Mendes Filho (December 15, 1944 ? December 22, 1988), also known as Chico Mendes, was a Brazilian rubber tapper, unionist and environmental activist. He fought to stop the logging of the Amazon Rainforest for the purposes of cattle ranching, and founded a national union of rubber tappers in an attempt to preserve their profession and the rainforest that it relied upon. He was murdered in 1988 by ranchers opposed to his activism."At first I thought I was fighting to save rubber trees, then I thought I was fighting to save the Amazon rainforest. Now I realise I am fighting for humanity." - Chico Mendes, Rubber tappers' leader------------------------------------------------------

_____Ernesto Guevara De La Serna" Che Guevara"I am not interested in dry economic socialism. We are fighting against misery, but we are also fighting against alienation. One of the fundamental objectives of Marxism is to remove interest, the factor of individual interest, and gain, from people's psychological motivations. Marx was preoccupied both with economic factors and with their repercussions on the spirit. If communism isn't interested in this too, it may be a method of distributing goods, but it will never be a revolutionary way of life. - Ernesto Che Guevara
