Here’s the deal.
I’m from Sweden. I’m 27 years old. I made about 30 original low-fi songwritersongs with the help of my voice and a guitar. Then I recorded some of them to hear what they sounded like. They weren’t awful. They weren’t perfection. They were something in between. The songs had potential of becoming great songs. But they needed something more. They weren’t complete. Something had to be added. More instruments, I thought. More musicians... yeah, a lot more.
I know a couple of musicians, I thought, I’ll just ask them to play with me. So I did. And they said that they would be happy to contribute if there was time. But soon I realized there wasn’t any time. They had their own music to think about. Their own bands to commit to. And no time for more touring and extensive gigging. So much for that plan.
Then I thought: Heck, I’ll do this myself! So I went to the local music shop and bought a tuning pedal, a microphone, a MIDI-keyboard and a cheap soundcard. And I went home and started to record every instrument, using stuff like preprogrammed drums and VSTi synths. It didn’t sound great. It sounded artificial, not beatiful and evergreenish as Jens Lekmans songs sound. And I couldn’t get past that I had to use a computer as my only bandmember for the live shows to make it work. Kinda dull compared to the inpact a whole band does on an audience.
Then I got a big vision. Here it is, plain and simple...
I invite you to join my band. Yeah, that’s right, YOU.
Maybe you’re a skilled musician. Maybe you only played flute for two semesters in third grade. Maybe you sing like a bird. Maybe you sing like my grandmother. Maybe you have hands like the size of Mexico (great for clapping noices!). The important thing is that you have an inner voice telling you: “I wan’t to be a part of this swedish guy’s band and crew. I really think I can contribute.â€
You can be the difference. And you will be the difference. I promise you that much. Skin color, hair color, eye color, sex, nationality, sexual preference, job, money, age, length and weight doesn’t matter to me. If you got music in your heart and rhythm in your soul, you are welcome to join.
The idea is this: Together we will form the largest band and crew of all time. The band will have members all over the world. When the band gets enough members in a country (or at least a couple of fans), I will travel there so we can play our music. I will meet up with the bandmembers in the town where we will be playing. We’ll rehearse the songs for the entire day. Find our own special way to play them.
Later at night, we will play songs in front of a live audience. Hopefully, we will get applauds. Hopefully, we’ve arranged to get paid for the gig. Hopefully, we have arranged somewhere to sleep and something to eat.
The next day, I continue to the next city, and a new set of bandmembers.
Does this sound interesting to you? Do you wan’t to be a part of this adventure? In any way possible? Maybe you need to know more, sleep on it for a bit? Or do you think it’s a goofy and stupid idea? Have you got a better idea, an idea that I can actually use?
Either way, pop in at my On The Cinnamon blog to follow the progress of the band and maybe even donate a few bucks to the project.
If you already know that you want to become a band or crew member of On The Cinnamon, (given that you could hear all my songs, that you like them and get the feeling that you could evolve them further), mail me at
[email protected] and you will get the access to more songs along with a Bandmember form to fill out.
Great! Welcome!
