The History of Black Bay
The history of Black Bay begins with Mikael Westberg, Lars Westberg and Jonas Jönsson in the fall of 2002. Mikael had a band called Alkemi, and Lars would sometimes play with them just for fun. When Jonas started to look for members for his band, a friend suggested Jonas to give Lars a call to see if he was interested in his band idea. Lars liked the idea and a week later they started to rehearse.
A few months later, two members from Alkemi decided to quit the band. Mikael and the singer Robin Zetterberg now needed a drummer and a bass player. Lars suggested that Jonas can play drums and that he could play bass. After a little while they all decided to start a new band together. They named the band The Paralyses
After 3 months, Robin wanted to change the name to Transylvania because he thought it reflected the music in a better way (at this time they were playing horror punk, like The Misfits).
In the summer of 2003, Transylvania had their first and only gig at Dyketrocken in Njurunda. About a month after that gig, Lars, Mikael and Jonas decided that they wanted to play more advanced and heavier music. Robin left the band in the fall of 2003 and they quickly found a new singer in William Hultquist. The name Transylvania was changed to Einhell and the four metalheads started to rehearse. Einhell had their first gig at Nivrenaskolans Christmas Holiday-Show in the winter of 2003.
Two weeks in to the year of 2004, Kristoffer Edlund joined the band as their new bass player and Lars started to play guitar. Einhell were now a five piece band. The first gig with the new line up was PÃ¥skrocken at Opalen in Kvissle in the spring of 2004. In the summer of 2004, when the band was rehearsing at Kusten in Bredsand they all agreed to change the band name again. This time to Black Bay, first as a joke from Lars and Mikael (Lars and Mikael grew up in a place called Svartvik, swedish for Blackbay). After a lot of thinking, all the members of the band agreed to change their name to Black Bay.
The next step in the Black Bay story were when William left the band in late 2005. He hade became more interested in playing guitar and did'nt wanted to continue as a full-time singer. They searched for a new singer in early 2006. They tried Oscar Collin for about 1½ month and also had a gig at Musik Direkt (Sweden's biggest music-competition for people under 20) with him. But his voice wasn't what they were looking for so they couldn't continue with him as a singer.
In late february of 2006, Black Bay had no singer so Lars began to sing on rehearsals. And after a few weeks of practicing, Lars became the new singer. The line-up was completed! Black Bay are:
Lars Westberg - Vocals & Guitar
Mikael Westberg - Guitar
Kristoffer Edlund - Bass
Jonas Jönsson - Drums & Back-up vocals
Their first gig with Lars on vocals were on the legendary rock-club Pipeline in Sundsvall (March 2006). 2 weeks later a gig at Opalen in Kvissleby really opened Black Bay's eyes and they realized that they have something special here and they decided to record their first demo.
The demo didn't turn out the way they hoped (the sound wasn't what they were after) and they felt really low beacuse of this. They decided to make a new attempt a few months later and this result came out even worse and the band were really unhappy. 2 attempts and they still didn't have a demo that they could be proud of.
We have now reached present day and Black Bay will hopefully record a new demo (That will sound great!) in early 2007 and play a lot of gigs!
That's all from Black Bay!
