MILLE COMÉDIES - LE DOUBLE INAUDIBLE
yxetm+ | Yurihito Watanabe (jp)
cover art by Mariko Sugano
When I hear the music of Yurihito Watanabe I feel the chill presence of ghosts wandering through ruins. Jean Cocteau's Orpheé is a tangible memory in this mise en scène, along with the atmospheric hypersensitivity of The Fall Of The House of Usher by Edgar Allan Poe. In the Radical Fashion exhibition, held at London's Victoria & Albert Museum, I decided to group his contribution in the section devoted to Jean Paul Gaultier. For me, curious feelings of refracted memories, an alternative history, occur within this space. The museum of the 19th century, its categorisations freezing time and dividing experience, is experienced through 'out of time' senses, an intensity of vibration, poetic alchemy.
( David Toop / from sleeve note )
Le Double Inaudible, or The Voice. It is not memories but what is kicked out to the outskirts of history and what is forgotten with the mute of people – a place, portraits and letters, a room with the hanging calendar – like them, like a particle body which is going down the fissure of time, the voice listens deeply. The atmosphere of this collection. Although the taste of compiler is the cause of such a liking for what is thrown away or died out, an archeological handling represents a story of "J'ai mal" of the both of two, who deprives death and who is deprived of death. Looks like breathing the vibration of things, it is too experiential to say that it represents something, and it is an intensity of vibration, or the voice just as sense's block.
