About Me

In search of the proverbial zipperump-a-zoo.

My Interests

I saw a man with snowflakes caught in his beard. What is more comforting than a besnowflaked beard?

I'd like to meet:

Standard Protocol for Becoming My Friend: 1) We meet. I am aloof, somewhat unfriendly, possibly witty, and probably sarcastic. 2) You are a much better judge of character than I, so despite my unfriendliness you decide I am worth getting to know. 3) You are persistent. After some unspecified period of time we reach a critical mass of relational intimacy and I decide that you're amazing (how did I manage to dislike you at first?!). 4) Now you're in the club! I'll most likely give you a nickname (or several) and present you with homemade gifts. I'll ask and answer all the serious questions. We'll laugh at how long it took me to warm up to you. I'll do robot dances for you in the grocery store. We'll skip hand in hand through fields of flowers, and so on and so forth.

Music:

The accordion, the banjo, the piano, the cello, the kazoo. And beatboxing flutists.

Movies:

"have you ever seen a mistake in nature?"

Television:

The episode where Mr. Rogers goes to the crayon factory is my favorite. The stamp factory and peanut butter factory episodes are a close second and third. I guess this explains my childhood dream of someday working in a factory.

Books:

Sometimes I read my pocket dictionary.

Heroes:

Flannery O'Connor, Annie Dillard (Flan-diddy and Ann-diddy, respectively)

like a virgin (megastore)

I did the unthinkable today. I bought Joanna Newsom's "Ys" at (gasp) that retail behemoth of Union Square, the Virgin megastore. I don't know what possessed me! That's a lie. I was possessed by th...

you know, for kids!

Tenacious D-backer called yesterday and asked if I wanted to volunteer at this Halloween benefit for children with AIDS. Something about dressing up and entertaining the munchkins. I LOVE COSTUMES! ...

A Warning For All Inhabitants of Multnomah County

This letter is to inform you of the impending arrival of Hurricane Kylie. This storm originated somewhere over the Atlantic Ocean and has, until recently, been deemed harmless by meteorologists and ot...

multitasker

I slept for most of today because we had an "overnight" at work (6pm-8am). When I woke up, I walked to the park and watched a man fly a kite. Eventually, both the man and I decided it had gotten to...

another reason to write a list

In the month (sheesh!) since I wrote, I've been doing and not doing things. Just in case you were wondering:[DOING]...imaginary drugs. Roomie Rusty says that if he didn't know better, he would assum...

Luke the Roommate tells me that if I were a superhero, I would be Super Empathy Girl. Although my extraordinary ability to identify with people is not as decidedly useful as, say, x-ray vision or the...

make that 7 things

Honestly, number 3 was kind of boring and vague. Today I thought of a much better one:7. I tap dance on the subway platform while I'm waiting for a train. Mostly I alternate between single, double ...

6 things

Alright, alright.1. I like to begin sentences with the word "so." And I tend to trail off before finishing a sentence. But you probably already knew that. So anyway...2. It really bothers me when...

Photo Album (part four): Roommate

When I first moved to Portland, I lived in my grandmother's apartment. It was an unusual arrangement. I paid rent and occupied the bedroom. Grandma, whose primary residence is in Santa Cruz, CA, sl...
