I am here for Friends

About Me

Presently working in a chromatography lab - making stuff that most people don't ever think about even when they need it, because they're likely unaware that it's something that somebody actually has to make. (Calibration reagents for diagnostic equipment that hospitals use.)I was walking in Pearl Street Market in downtown Boulder Colorado when a street musician (jazz flutist) called out to my kids "Stay in school or you'll end up like me." And I answered "Stay in school, and you might end up like me instead."No matter - they're homeschooled.Yes, I graduated college. Chemical Engineering. But I took a detour from my "career" (really, I was just watching a production line make sheets of plastic) to do missionary work in Ethiopia. Work permit said I was a "linguistics expert" and I told the supporters back home that I was doing Bible Translation, when really, I was just a chauffer, bank, mailbox, medicine cabinet, undertaker, gas pump attendant, and general information guy to ask because all the other real missionaries happen to be gone this year. I shoulda had a t-shirt that said "Para continuar en Espanol, oprima dos"yeah right. I'll oprima you, buddy.Got married on the field, had kids on the field, went crazy on the field, got kicked off the field.Met up with an old friend who had joined a monastery with the Orthodox Church of America... and tried hard not to be influenced. But oh well. Once my wife started looking at it without being prejudiced that 'it's just another denomination' - we were goners. Catechumens from January until June and then baptized on June 24th.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

At the risk of sounding pompous, I already know so many people and have said goodbye to so many people that I can't think of who else I would like to meet.Lately, though, I have been fascinated by the lives of the saints that I've read about: St Seraphim of Sarov. St John of Shanghai. St Nicholas of Myra... The good news is that there is hope in Christ that I will meet them someday.
