About Me

Senator Craig Romero has been a member of the Louisiana State Senate for thirteen years. Prior to serving in the Senate, he served eight years as the President of Iberia Parish Government. In each office, he has been known as a strong advocate for the people he represents.
Following the storms of 2005, Craig Romero personally went to work helping the people ravaged by Hurricane Katrina and then Rita – by arranging food, water, clothing, vaccines, boats for rescues, and electrical generators for first responders and those affected by the storms.
During the Senate Special Sessions he advocated for reform and for ensuring that tax dollars were properly spent. Early in the 2005 legislative session, Craig Romero was in the forefront against Governor Blanco’s tax increases proposed while Louisiana was receiving increased revenues.
Craig Romero has supported legislation to cut taxes. He worked for tort reform and the elimination of the Death Tax that costs Louisiana jobs. Craig Romero has fought hard to protect many of Louisiana’s most important industries including oil and gas, sugar, shrimp and crawfish and he strongly supports Louisiana’s small businesses.
A consistent defender of strong family values, last year he was praised by the Louisiana Family Forum and named an "Outstanding Family Advocate" for his work on right-to-life and traditional family values issues. Craig Romero was an outspoken supporter of Louisiana’s marriage amendment, which defended traditional marriage. He voted for it in the Senate, attending rallies urging voters to pass it and made thousands of phone calls to get out the vote for its final passage.
Senator Romero was Chairman of the Senate’s Natural Resources Committee. He is a Member of the State Senate’s Select Committee on Coastal Restoration and Flood Control where he fought for coastline restoration. He was one of the first to promote the Christmas Tree project to help limit coastal erosion.
He is currently Vice Chairman of the Senate Insurance Committee as well as a member of the Judiciary and Natural Resources committees. Prior to the Senate, Craig Romero was the elected President of Iberia Parish for eight years. He has been a member of the Police Jury Association, the Legislative Audit Advisory Council, the Louisiana Workers Compensation Corporation Board and the Commission on Louisiana Outdoors.
He has been named a “Friend of the Parishes” by the Police Jury Association of Louisiana, “Legislator of the Month” by the Louisiana Municipal Association and he received a conservation award from the Louisiana Wildlife Federation. Craig Romero has consistently received high scores from sportsmen’s and business associations.
Craig Romero is the Past Chairman of the Lafayette Oilman’s Sporting Clay Shoot, Past President of the Iberia Parish Cattleman’s Association and the Past President of the Louisiana Charolais Breeders Association. He was named Mr. Iberia by the Louisiana Sugar Cane Festival Association and he received the Iberia Distinguished Citizen Award of 2004 from the Evangeline Area Boy Scouts Council of Acadiana. He has been a member of a number of organizations including Ducks Unlimited, the Knights of Columbus, Jaycees and Kiwanis. He is currently a member of the National Rifle Association. He also served as PTA President of St. Edwards Church School and as a coach of the Eagle Tee Ball Team of the Coteau League.
Craig is a resident of New Iberia where he and his wife Pamela are raising seven children. He holds a degree in History and Political Science from the University of Southwestern Louisiana, now known as the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. When he is not in the Senate, Craig Romeo is an employee in the oil field services industry. He has also worked in the insurance industry and as a consultant to a number of companies that employee thousands in South Louisiana. In addition to his other activities, Craig Romero is a proud farmer, raising Charloais cattle, along with Pamela and the children.
