Anders Karlsmark is one of the founders of the Swedish new-wave band,Commando M Pigg. Karlsmark made his first soloalbum in 1994. In 2005 he released a new album, "Gonnabyeme". Watch the video from the single "Spitting Duckheads" below.After his eighties in the band Commando M Pigg, who later on became Commando and of which he took part in to form, Anders Karlsmark has led a rather anonymus musical existence,even though he has released a couple of albums since the band broke up. Now he is back with the album Gonnabyeme [Ogla/Fuego], with the name Karlsmark, which is a really pleasant experience.
Anders Karlsmark was the bassplayer in his creation of the eighties who recorded eight albums and toured the country- [Sweden] and also visited countries in Europe and the U.S. After the break up of the band Karlsmark moved to Gothenburg, where he formed the band Submachines together with Per Dahlberg and he also released an album with the same name. His solo debut with the name Karlsmark was also a selfentitled album which was released eleven years ago.
Now he is back again with an album on his own label Ogla, an album that he has produced himself and written all material for. It is himself who plays bass and guitarr and who sings all songs, and it is interesting that the former Commando - guitarrists Peter Puders and Bjorn Wallgren play guitarr in some tracks each. On drums we hear Dan Johansson and the mixdown is done by the experienced Micke Herrstrom.
The new single Spitting Duckheads is supplied with a video directed by the artist Ernst Billgren.
Karlsmarks meeting with modern studio technique is a pleasant experience, his artistic sense for rock music is intact from his time with Commando and there is a sence of timelessness about Karlsmarks new creation. The ten new songs could just as well been recorded 20 years ago, but they still feel wholly modern and adapted for today.
Karlsmarks talents lies both in the songwriting and the arrangement of the songs, and also in the tasteful performance. There are elements of both pop and artrock and there are no limits to the playfullness and fantasy when Karlsmark sometimes offers sunny popmusic, one one track does Chinese rap, somethimes plays JJ Cale and somethimes offers powerpop of the purest carat.
This is an exciting Swedish songwriter and artist, who for too long has stayed away from making records, but with Gonnabyeme Karlsmark starts a second career and maybe there can be a continuation with a more regular release of records. Tomas Fridholm, Musikindustrin
