Stylish. Soulful. Skillful. Street. These are the 4 qualities that come to mind when one first hears the Snake Eyes' debut offering The Dice Game. "The Dice Game is a great metaphor for life", Snake Eyes adds when commenting on the reasoning behind the name. "For example, craps is a game that can be, at once, very street when done on street corners or very professional when done at a casino with the bet lines and all ... it's a good metaphor for life, and for myself in particular, I think." And Snake's key to being successful at dice or life in general? "That's easy -- for both you gotta be a hustler."
Snake Eyes should know. The young hustler has been a force - on AND off the radar - on the up-and-coming Dallas hip hop scene for the past 3 years. During this stint, he's been featured on everything from mixtapes to documentary DVDs to commercially released CDs; he's done shows everywhere from Club Life to hole in the wall clubs in Pleasant Grove; rocked everything from Voter's Registration Drives to the Dallas Music Festival, and everything in between. He has appeared besides platinum selling heavyweights such as E-40, MC Eiht, and Krazy (on the extended remix of the underground anthem Dont Get It Twisted) as well as up and coming hip hop stars. And he's gained a following by showcasing his style of street poetry over body-moving rhythms. Sometimes his delivery is highly charged, often it's laid back, but it's always the 4 S's - stylish, soulful, skillful & street.
Case in point is Snake's stylish debut single - named The HIP-Notiq!!! (produced by Ricochet) - where Snakebreathes new life into a familiar subject. "Right now, I think artists take for granted there are a million things to talk about in hip hop, and even if you talk about the same thing, you could deliver it differently. I don't ever want to take that for granted." And on this effort it doesn't appear that Snake does. The songs range from well developed stories (The Vision) to street bangers (Dice Game, Hot Outside!!!, King's English) to even club songs (Hop On It), all with the North Dallas general's signature flair and penchant for wordplay.
This style has Snake Eyes already getting some airplay (on Dallas' KNON 89.3FM & Oklahoma's 1140AM - the premiere hip hop show in Oklahoma City), as well getting some love in clubs as well (where Hop On It and The HIP-Notiq!!! are garnering attention as well). Not to mention where it all counts - the streets. "I'm a street poet when it comes down to it; I speak from my perspective on what goes down on the streets of Dallas; so to get love from my folks is real cool...real important." Snake attributes his bubbling popularity directly to his association with The Movement Entertainment Group. "Mic Moodswing, Cynthia, Psy2kodelic, & Mayhem, ZK just everybody's shown love from day one," Snake says, "And as a collective I think we're going to do some damage. For REAL." With production from some of the top emerging producers, including Psy2ko,The Elements (J.O. Louder & OZ), and Ricochet, combined with Snake's hustle and mouthpiece, The Dice Game is poised to do just that. The Hustlers back. Get Ready!
