About Me

I currently spend way too much time looking at paint colors and carpet samples. I love my teaching team (go Xtra Tuffs!). I sell my old books on Ebay, but it's mostly a hobby, I don't really make any money doing it. I am obsessive about always having chapstick within reach. I am an English teacher, but a lot of things about grammar still puzzle me. And I have never, ever washed my car.

My Interests

I like to walk, run, and hike. I like to plant seeds. I'm interested in worms. I also like to cook. I go through phases where I will buy and read a bunch of cookbooks, then try them out. I've gone through a jam phase, a wine phase, a chocolate truffle phase, a sausage phase, and a soup phase. What could be next? I'm thinking maybe a cheese phase. (Go ahead - make fun of me, you know you want to. Yeah, you know who you are).

I'd like to meet:

There is a person in town who I am mistaken for. The person who strangers think they're waving at when they're really waving at me. The person people talk about when they say "I saw you at the store yesterday" when I actually never left the house. That's the person I'd like to meet.

Music:

Recently I found myself loading my MP3 player with 6 hours of running music - up beat girly 80s music. But mostly I listen to old hippie music - Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, Greg Brown, Tom Waits, Van Morrison, Holly Near, Paul Simon... stuff like that.

Movies:

I'm a netflix junkie, I'll watch anything. I especially like mysteries: Miss Marple, CSI, Inspector Lynley, Law & Order, Inspector Morse. Yes people, I know this is technically television, but I rent it on DVD. I'm telling you: no commercials - it's a beautiful thing!

Television:

I recently bought cable. This was the biggest waste of money ever. And this is coming from a person who has been known to buy new clothes rather than wash her dirty ones.

Books:

I read a LOT. I prefer fiction and since I'm a teacher I read a lot of young adult literature. My deep dark reading secret involves cheap drugstore paperback mysteries. Sometimes I worry that I won't get to read all the good books before I die. I belong to a book club, which is a great excuse to have dinner with a bunch of intellectual women.

Heroes:

Bill Chalmers (if you don't know who that is, ask a Crimson Bear).
