In 1991, Henry Neal, Dale McCrory, & Doug Woodard left their current band to form Southland with Jesse Boartfield. The Band continued for the next 4 years to rehearse and play at many clubs as house band including: Chester's in Riverside, Al, P.J.'s in Margaret, Al., Friendly Ed's in Pell City, Al to name a few. 1995 brought new changes for the band with the idea of using two guitarists. The combination of Ron Dometrovich and Jesse Boartfield produced a new electricity in the sound of the band. 1997 was a big year for Southland. Back to a four piece the band settled into Steve Zito's recording studio and cut their first cd, Respect. Steve continued to work as second guitarist off and on over the next 3 years. A single was released that year on A.M.I. Records. The song - Southland - reached ..11 on the independent charts and ..72 on the national charts! 1999 - After many years of playing in and around Birmingham, Southland finally played its first festival - Forth Fest in Pell City, Al., opening for The Fabulous Thunderbirds and John Anderson. 2000 - With the addition of Rick McDurmin on Bass, the band continued playing large venues such as : Briarfield Iron Works - opening for Montgomery Gentry, Lake Fest - opening for Dan Seals and The Grass Roots, and Birmingham's City Stages Coca-cola Stage! 2001 - Still going strong, Southland changed its sound with the addition of Tommy O'Barr on Guitar. Once again sceduled for City Stages BlockBuster Stage. Both Dale and Jesse continued writing new material. The band also played the Nashville Music Festival in 2002! 2003 - Back to a 4 piece band Southland joins forces with 2 time grammy winner Larry Butler !!The new cd features 10 brand new songs from the band including 5 original tunes!! 2006 - Southland continued to write songs and perform live music! 2008 - We say say hello to new member - Shawn Battles on Acoustic guitar / vocals. Now as a five piece band be prepared for an energetic show filled with your favorite songs! Come check out one of our live shows and have some fun with us!....Southland Band will perform without Dale McCrory for the next few months due to health issues. We wish him a speedy recovery!
