Its a sound reminiscent of eighties UK with a modern algorithm of beats. Huhmann's guitar sound changes tone and emotion through a myriad of effect pedals, and his clear vocals cut through the multi-layer sound with a variety of voice. Hulston provides keyboard work, adding an element to the sound of The Dark Circles away from the straight pop-rawk songs ,as they were written. He fades seemlessly to a second guitar as well, stacking layer upon layer. Turner brings in the low, with the bass effect-ed as well, and adds back-up vocals to top off the sound.
Drummer Brad Wicklander (Anvil Chorus, Saturn 138) brings a certain sensibility to the line-up. His beats are hard hitting and often danceable, but hold true to his punk style and energy.
The band shouldn't be confused with a simple reflection of the 80's darkside, and certainly not an imitation of modern goth/glam bands - exporting heavy kick under distorted power chords and vocals. The Dark Circles could easily fall into a variety of music industry classifications, if mandatory - from perfect indie pop-sensibile, to straight forward rock-n-roll reckless.
