Be Safe and Be Kind is the way to go. Also, don't forget to remain calm and stop every once in a while to appreciate the squirrels. Work for social justice, and stop to think before you react. Quit talking so much, and just listen. And if you're tired of listening, try thinking. Quit acting like you know everything, and try something different (like a veggie hot dog from Hotdog On A Stick). But just quit talking so much! It's boring, tacky, and stupid (unless you're Candace; if so, then keep talking!). Otherwise S.T.F.U!
(This was already covered on page 23 in your mañuel) I wanna meet the King of Cartoons. I already have the best friends I could ever hope for, and the sweetest loves of my life (Chila y Amaya). I'm always looking to hear from old (and new) friends. Speak up if you're a duppy conquerah...
My DJing days are long gone, but I still spend waaayyyy too much money on the stuff. Start with the basics-- the music from Jamaica, and jazz from the late 50's-70's, and watch my collection grow: scary Lee Perry, Peter Tosh, and any rocksteady, dub, roots, or dancehall I can get my fingers on. Dusty LP's rule, but free MP3's are making life alot nicer and easier. Let's not forget about Trane and Miles, Thelonious Sphere and Mingus. And then there are like 3 million other artists, songs, and recordings to dig up... never ending. I also like slow post-punk guitar spazz outs, starting with Sonic Youth and ending with Mogwai. Bjork is butta, and so is the mighty WU. Ghostface is ichiban, with the GZA and RZA right up there with him. Listen to the Tribe for some 90's breaks, and buy mixtapes to keep up with what's new. I love the beats that mek dem people g'waan. Crisp drum breaks, and a deep bass line is all I really need. Stones Throw, Jay Dee, Pete Rock, and everything else in between keep my head in check. And hot-damn, I really like Modest Mouse and Bloc Party. I also keep going back to The Cure for those nostalgic love songs. I also can't forget the early fav's for inspiration-- The Specials, The Clash, Operation Ivy, Rancid, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, NOFX, and the Beatsie Boys. Nuff respect to the originals! DJ Scottie B rules, and B-More club music makes me want to dance, dance, dance like a cheerleader. My playlists last for days, and there's never enough time to just sit down and listen. But listen I do. Props to TurntableLab.com, Hollerboard, and Stones Throw.
Windy City Heat, Gummo, Noî, E Tu Mama Tambien, Dark Days, The Life Aquatic, Devils Rejects, PeeWee's Big Adventure, Dumb and Dumber, the Big Lebowski, King Pin, Showgirls, Pecker, American Movie, Elf, Anchorman, Star Wars (OG, Empire Strikes Back, and return of the Jedi-- only to be watched on VHS), Battle Royale, The Harder they Come, Rockers, Team America, South Park Movie, Breakin', Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo, How's Your News, Whale Rider, Lost In Translation, and TV Carnage are some of the inspirational ones I can think of off the top of my head.
WOW [genius]: Strangers With Candy, Curb Your Enthusiasm, WonderShowzen, The Office, Miami Vice, The Simpsons, America's Funniest Homevideos, Jackass, and Reno 911 for the funny... WOW [disgusting but undeniable]: Saved By The Bell, Beverly Hills 90210, 7th Heaven, Wildboyz, and the new A&E lineup-- Dog the Bounty Hunter, Airline, and Mindfreak (nice lisp, dude).
I love to read, but books ain't my thang. I've read and liked a few: A Struggle for Power, Angela Brown; On The Road, J. Kerouac; Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas, Hunter S. Thompson; and The Vice Guide To Sex, Drugs, and Rock'n'Roll is the best.I endorse: VICE, The Fader, Riddim, URB, IE Weekly, Wikipedia, and that's that.
Anyone who's taken the time to do something different and follow their heart... I have some incredible friends, and you know who you are. I also have respect for those who have had to fight to just be themselves. Life shouldn't be so rough...
