I am here for Friends

About Me

I love my family. I take care of my daughter and work from home, writing part time for a local, monthly newspaper, The Prospect Pages. I also work part time teaching fitness classes and water aerobics at our local Greater Waterbury YMCA. We go to Walnut Hill Community Church. www.walnuthillcc.org I have a website for parents who teach their kids at home. It's called www.momsteachingkids.com But, it is not functioning at the moment. :( We are changing things and it should be back up and running... someday!

My Interests

My interests include: Our new puppy. He's a maltese that we named Levi. I also like: country partner dancing (when we have the time to go) learning new things, home schooling, exercise, teaching or playing with my daughter Norah, reading, talking or hanging out with my husband Dwayne, creating things with my sewing machine, like quilts or garments and drawing (when I have time for either) and gardening- flowers and vegetables.

I'd like to meet:

Jennifer Knapp, Beth Moore

Music:

I listen to and enjoy most types of music. I guess it depends on the song itself.

Movies:

Pride and Prejudice (the A and E version, but the one with the "Pirates" chick has been growing on me) Sense and Sensibility (the version with Kate Winslet) Tombstone, Shag, Anne of Green Gables, Count of Monte Christo, Galaxy Quest (the funniest movie I've ever seen),The Shawshank Redemption, Dances With Wolves, The Prince of Egypt, While You Were Sleeping (Cause it looked like he was... LEANIN') and mostly anything Sci-Fi.

Television:

Battlestar Galactica is really the only show we set aside time to watch these days.

Books:

Not reading anything right now. I wish I could sit still long enough! Books I read again and again are Ruth Bell Graham's 'Footprints of a Pilgrim: Collected Poems' and Stormie Omartin's 'The Power of a Praying Wife' and the Bible.

Heroes:

Elijah, Corrie Ten Boom, Ms. Alice Henderson- a fictional character, played by Tyne Daly in the Christy series, Ruth Bell Graham.

Facing Death

I faced the prospect of my own death this month. Every woman in my family has thyroid problems and my sister fought a long battle with thyroid cancer, so my whole life they've all been harping, "You'd...

Songs To Run To

So, there are a few songs that make me feel like running and a few songs that when I am running, make me want to run much faster. I thought I'd start a list and add to the list as I think of more. Th...

Reflections on Sesame Street

I don't know who your favorite character is. Mine has always been Cookie Monster. In the old days, when he was in the middle of one of his fits, his eyes would occasionally stick (until one or both w...

Children Are A Reward

I knew being a parent would be a blessing, but I never expected to laugh so much. I also figured ANY laughs would be only one-sided, enjoyed by the grown-ups involved, but not by the kids. I figured I...

New England

It's got to be one of the only places on earth where you can walk through a mature forest and find a hearth and chimney standing among the trees, with no other proof that there was ever a home there. ...

Good Gifts

My daughter has a DVD called "Gigi: God's Little Princess." Her grandmom gave it to her for her birthday.  I find it irritating, cause I think Gigi acts like a spolied brat, but Norah loves it, ...

Napolean

My husband didn't tell me about him before we married. I guess he assumed he didn't need to, that I'd like him as much as he did, since we had so many other things in common...  But, he really sh...

Armored Cars and Side Arms

It's probably the same feeling others get when they hear the national anthem or see a flag at half mast. But, the Star Spangled Banner just makes me think of high school football games and when I see...

Ruth Bell Graham

I love Ruth Bell Graham's poetry.  I had wondered about the woman Billy Graham was married to...Who was she?  What was she like? Did she have as great a faith as her husband did?  How d...

Family Matters

I admire my father. He tells the best stories.  His is a natural gift of leading you through an event, embellishing at times, keeping you in suspense, then leaving you in stitches. He is even goo...
