THE IDIOM:The Parthian shot (or Parthian shaft) was a tactic employed by ancient Persian horse archers. The horsemen would feign retreat at full gallop, then suddenly turn their bodies around and fire an arrow at the pursuing enemy. This tactic was successfully used by the Parthians and other Persian civilizations utilizing cavalry extensively to disrupt, harass, maim, and kill enemy forces, especially infantry. A notable battle where this tactic as employed was the Battle of Carrhae...Today the term "parthian shot" has its origins in this tactic:An act of aggression or retaliation, such as a retort or threat, that is made upon one's departure or at the end of a heated discussion.
THE BAND:Parthian Shot were originally formed in 2003 from the vocalist Panagiotis "Parthos" Papageorgiou(www.myspace.com/theparthianheretic)(Ex-Blizzard,ex-Acid Baby),guitarist Pashalis Antoniou(ex-Blizzard) and bassist Yiannis Lykakis(Son Of A Gun,Kon/os Thalassohoris). The band starts rehearsals with the help of Aggelos Vafiades(http://www.myspace.com/angelvaf2)(Ex-Deadlock,Nikos Mihas) behind the drum set,but because Aggelos' natural post was to be over the black & white keys,and not behind drums,the band is forced to find a drummer.After the indications of percussionist Panagiotis Koliavasilis, the talented drummer Vangelis Baliousis (ex-Acid Baby,Double Square,now Crossblade)enters the group.Also the virtuoso guitarist Christos Mihalis(http://www.myspace.com/chrismikegfn) (aka Chris Mike-also God.Fear.None) joins in after the recommendations of Vangelis.During the winter of 2003-2004 the band develops a big playlist of cover songs, until March,2004 where Pashalis is forced to abandon the group, since he had obligations with his studies.So the band continues to act like a quintette,until now. After a big number of lives during spring and summer of 2004, the band decides to enter to a studio and record a demo: "Emotion: Hope" was released in February,2005,fully recorded at "IHION" studios and mixed by Alexis Vafiades. The demo has 4 songs with a huge area of influences, and won very good comments from the music press(2nd place in May,2005 issue of Greek Metal Hammer,Radio Show with Metal Zone etc.).In the self-titled song there is a guest appearance from the actress Katia Nikolaidou,well-known from her roles in many TV serials,theater and films(Thyliki Eteria of Nikos Perakis,Tha se do sto ploio,and lately hosting the weekend morning show for Alpha Channel) The band continues playing live,as it's the band's strong point,during spring-summer 2005 with bands like: The Dive,Wild Machine,Acid Baby,In Comma,Miyoko,Faded Leaves,RandomWalk,Down & Out and many others.(here we should mention that the band's high live performance is the main factor that other bands like God.Fear.None,Double Square etc. asked Parthian Shot's members to join them) In August 2005,Vangelis goes to Sweden to record the drum sessions for the last album of tech-metallers,System Shock. In September,2005, Vangelis leaves the band for his studies in the UK, as also keyboardist Angelos Vafiades due to his co-op with Greek Pop-Rock Star Nikos Mihas.Aggelos is being replaced by the promising young keyboardist Antonis Ventouris (On Thorns I Lay)....Octomber 2007... The Band Is Re-United...this time for sure...The Core?The same...Panagiotis,Chris & Yiannis,after earning extra experience experimenting with different things and music,finally back together joined by guitarist Costantinos Smonos(http://www.myspace.com/leadian) ,as the perfect match for Chris' shredding skills...Supported by Sound Engineer/Producer Panagiotis Kouvelis(http://www.myspace.com/panagiotis_kouvelis) taking over the sound part,are about to start rehearsals for upcoming shows and after finalizing new stuff,getting into studio...
now the band is searching for a full-time-NOT SESSION,highly-skilled DRUMMER & KEYBOARDIST(male or female),with mainly rock/progressive/metal/improvisation influences and very open mind,as a person & musician,in order to get its full shape...anyone intrested,please contact us...
