There are a lot of things happening in our world today other than the latest celebrity gossip and our own suburban dreams. There are millions of people who need our help, and these are some of my favorite non-profits bent on making a difference.
Invisible Children is a non-profit organization focused on saving the children in Uganda. Every night these children have to walk miles and miles to get to safehouses so that they won't be kidnapped by a rebel army. If they get kidnapped, they're either trained to be vicious killers and forced into this army, or will be brutally murdered. If anyone tries to escape (which is near impossible), they are violently killed in front of the rest of the children in the army. They are so brainwashed, that in an interview of one child who had escaped, he said, "my head hurts when i don't see blood." This war has been going on for 20 years and barely any light has been shed on it thus far. Because of this an estimated 40,000 children have been abducted. These are children, not adults or even teenagers, but children.
T.W.L.O.H.A. is also a non-profit organization, but they work on finding help for those afflicted with the horrors of cutting/self-injury, depression, drug addiction, and suicide. TWLOHA's mission is to communicate hope and love to broken people. They also aim to invite and inspire lives of compassion. They hope to help remove the stigma often associated with these issues, to encourage hurting people to talk about broken things, to know that they are not alone, and to get help.
I urge you to check out To Write Love On Her Arms as well as Invisible Children as soon as you can. If this society's gonna turn around and get better, we've got to be the ones to instigate the change. So tell you friends, and lets be the human antidotes.
