I am here for Friends

About Me

i am preoccupied both with the dark and morbid and the childish and tacky. i love goya's "saturn devouring his child" and hello kitty almost equally. most of all i like learning something new and a good discussion of an interesting topic. i'm currently captivated by deep sea creatures, especially bioluminescents and cephalopods. i'm vegan b/c i'm a lazy environmentalist. i like to color, do puzzle books, and play nintendo. i also like to go to museums and science centers and do other things that sound more intellectual even though i can't think of any examples right now. i prefer a coffee house to a bar. i don't dance. at least not in public. i went to school to become a librarian in order to fulfill my life goal of being paid to learn. yes i am that big a nerd. and you love it.

My Interests

crafting, movies, weaving, music, cross stitch, cooking, pop culture, spinning (yarn not bikes), personality tests (i'm so INTJ), knitting, mythology, philadelphia soft pretzels, tea rooms, planetariums, embroidery, coffee, getting carded at 18 and over clubs, beads, the pure genius that is: www.mightyrhapsody.com

I'd like to meet:

seriously. somebody play killer bunnies with me already!

Music:

current rotation: the magnetic fields, jens lekman, the get up kids, big bands, crooners, fantasy metal mix cds

other favorites: reggie and the full effect, okkervil river, brendan benson and the wellfed boys, graham coxon, neutral milk hotel, portishead, cowboy bebop soundtrack, leonard cohen, leona ness, brand new, mali music. i'm finding more all the time at pandora.com, but mostly i like those skinny boys whining about girls and love.

Movies:

david attenborough documentaries, rad, magnolia, empire records, dazed and confused, princess bride, clue, titus, saint clara, shallow grave, arizona dream, heathers, before night falls, about a boy, eyes wide shut, last man standing, trainspotting, everything by almodovar, movies with body counts.

Television:

i've fallen off the tv bandwagon. lately it's only random glimpses of the food network with some daily show and colbert report thrown in. in a past life i loved doctor who, nero wolfe, athf, home movies, cowboy bebop, pop culture nostalgia shows (i.e. i love the 80's - that skinny guy is funny) and countdown shows - all of them! (mtv's baddest rockstar moments, people's most beautiful people, afi's best movie musical songs, vh1's greatest 1 hit wonders, it doesn't matter, count away. i'll even watch the reruns. when i have cable.)

Books:

currently reading - anna karenina, predictably irrational, freakanomics, a gentle madness. past favorites - the series of unfortunate events, cookbooks, pedro almodovar's patty diphusa writings, poe's short stories, the sherlock holmes and nero wolfe mysteries, dickens. the harold and his purple crayon series is incredibly uplifting. oscar wilde is fun to quote.

Heroes:

david attenborough
