The truth is that my name is Greg Gillespie, and I don't often sleep on trains. A few years ago, I decided to pursue myown musical project being inspired by the idea of writing songs that would stand even if unheard by anyone else. This influenced me to craft my style after the music I love. The style of the music of Neil Finn, Elliot Smith, and Aimee Mann. The reaction of people who shared the same sentiment for my music encouraged me to not let them remain unheard.
The Album: After brewing a dozen songs during a year spent in Prague, I hunkered down to finish and record these my songs of melancholy and hope in our fifth floor Vancouver apartment. Contributions by clarinetist and guitarist, Todd Hutzulak made this less a lonely experience. The decision to play as Trainsleeper was made to further open the potential for different ensembles and combinations of musicians to interpret and deliver the songs beyond the limitations of the lone acoustic guitar player/singer/songwriter. Hope you dig the songs.
The Future: The plan is to be recording new collection of songs this winter for a project entitled "Songs for Philip Seymour Hoffman".
