Being passionate and living well.
People who like being themselves.
I don't have time for anything very exhaustive so this is just a few current picks...Vivaldi, Jeff Buckley, Calexico w/ Iron & Wine, Vicious Vicious, Sun Kil Moon, TV on the Radio, Monster Magnet, Sir Mix-a-lot, The Streets, Dizzee Rascal, Placebo, Interpol, The Faint, Red Robot, 31 Knots, At the Drive-in, Blonde Redhead, The Decemberists, Sean Hayes, Imogen Heap, Innocence Mission, The Shins, Django Reinhardt, Harry James, Chet Baker, Postal Service, Bic Runga, and Stereolab. Alex De Grassi reminds me of being a child. Nine Inch Nails, The Cure and Chopin will always be among my favorites. My itunes is gluttonizing my pathetic hard drive. But Death Cab for Cutie has my heart.
I love film. I love it when it makes me double up and fall on the floor and laugh until I weep like a fool. I love it when it makes me hate how trapped I feel in the tiny world I live in. I love it when it's too beautiful to bear. I love it when it's fluffy and pointlessly cheerful. I love it when it's so stupid I can spend all night shredding it with my friends. I love it when it breaks my heart into tiny bits and expects me to just keep on going anyway. I love it when it matters. I love it when it drowns me. I love it when it seduces me. I love it when it confides in me. I love it when it escapes me. I love it when I escape with it.
Fuck television. It erodes my life. And Saturday Morning died with the 80's. Although I'd love to be Chris Hardwick's Shipmate...Damn is that guy funny! And I suppose I will admit to liking CSI (only las vegas), Law and Order:SVU, and Bones. PBS is for the most part excluded from my distaste for tv. Masterpiece Theater is brilliant, as is Nature and Nova, and you can't go wrong with Sesame Street, Mister Roger's Neighborhood, and Reading Rainbow. And I love Mac ads. Justin Long turns me on.
Lolita. Maurice. The Last Unicorn. The Shining. Classic Winnie the Pooh. Wind in the Willows. The Little Prince. All the Frog and Toad books. Grasshopper on the Road. The Theif of Always. The Phantom Tollbooth. The Velveteen Rabbit. Shadow of the Wind. The Emperor of Scent. Wuthering Heights. Perrault's Little Red Riding Hood. BFI Classics: Withnail and I. The Yellow House. Children's books are my favorite. The Ballantine Adult Fantasy series of the 60's and 70's had some pretty awesome titles.
People who live passionate, vibrant lives full of adventure and courage. People who never let tragedy jade them. People who value themselves and the people who love them. People strong enough to be genuine and brave enough to be open. My mother and father are two of the most incredible human beings I have ever been lucky enough to have known. Clea is my best friend and an astoundingly wonderful person. And Hayao Miyazaki has never forgotten what it feels like to be a child and see wonder and beauty even in terrible things...for that he is a hero.
