..MySpace.com HIXTORY OF RESISTANCE: EL SALVADOR!The Farabundo Martà National Liberation Front (FMLN) is a political party in El Salvador that was formerly a revolutionary guerrilla organization that included socialist, communist and social-democrat organization. The FMLN was named after the rebel leader Farabundo MartÃ, who led workers and peasants in an uprising to transform Salvadoran society after the devastation caused by the eruption of the volcano Izalco in 1932. The Communist Party of El Salvador was formed in the 1930's. One of the principal leaders was Farabundo MartÃ.He led the revolt against, the military dictator General Maximiliano Hernández MartÃnez, whom was resposible for killing hundreds and thousands of Salvadorians. General Maximiliano is responsible for executing "La Matanza," a violent campaign that killed more than 30,000 people, including innocent civilians, and any suspected of supportering the Rebels.A good number of those killed were indigenous farmworkers and members of the various indigenous groups that inhabited El Salvador. On December 17, 1979, in period of national crisis, the three dominant organizations (FPL, RN and PCS) of the Salvadoran left formed the Coordinadora PolÃtico-Militar. The CPM's first manifesto was released on January 10, 1980, and the day afterwards the Coordinadora Revolucionaria de Masas was formed to unify all revolutionary organizations..It is believed that Fidel Castro help unify the five organizaions that formed the FMLN by helping facilitate negotiations between the groups in Havana in December 1979. While all five groups called themselves revolutionaries, these five organizations had a lot of violent disagreements about poltics and how to create change in society. As a result, they all agreed that become one and that "There will be only one leadership, only one military plan and only one command, only one political line." On October 10, 1980 five leftwing guerilla organizations united to form Frente Farabundo Martà de Liberación Nacional (FMLN).During their armed struggle, THE FMLN ALSO had youth organizations like:• Juventud Farabundista (FPL) • Juventud Comunista Salvadoreña (PCS) • Juventud Revolucionaria (PRS) • Jóvenes en Resistencia (RN) • Juventud los Muchachos (PRTC)http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank">..http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c137/ YoungLordz/Anamaria1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting">{FMLN commander Ana Maria, considered to be an icon of revolutionary women in Latin America.} January 10, 1981 the FMLN organized their first major military action. During this offensive, the FMLN established control over towns and factories. But the FMLN's other largest offensive was in November 1989.In San Salvador the FMLN quickly took control of many of the poor neighborhoods until the military bombed their positions -- including bombing civilian populations to drive the FMLN out.One of the most famous battles in San Salvador was in the Sheraton Hotel, where guerrrillas and army soldiers battled floor-by-floor in the hotel. The FMLN's November 1989 offensive didn't succeed in its stated aim of overthrowing the government. The FMLN's show of strength in the 1989 offensive showed that the government would militarily defeat the FMLN.Soon after the November 1989 offensive, the U.S. government started to support a negotiated solution to the civil war, whereas up to that point they had pursued a policy of military defeat of the FMLN. Since the U.S. government was the major $funder$ (TDK tax dollars kill) of the Salvadoran government and military, they influence the negotiations a lot. So when the U.S. began to advocate negotations instead of a military solution, a negotiated peace accord between the FMLN and the Salvadoran government was reached in fairly short order in 1992.After peace accords were signed in 1992, all armed FMLN units were demobilized and their organization became a legal political party. The FMLN is now one of the two major political parties of the country.
