Embers Ashes was formed in early 2006 when guitarist Matthew Raetzel and drummer Erik Hvezda started a gothic/melodic metal project known as Mindseye. The project remained stagnant until early summer of 2006 when Mindseye welcomed new guitarist Josh Durany, who brought to the band a new perspective for metal. Soon after, Matthew Raetzel talked to long time friend, Andrew Pikor, who two weeks after Josh’s entrance in the band became the new frontman for Mindsye. With their complete lineup, Mindseye began to endlessly write material, and played their first show at a house party about a month after the band was conceived. Soon after, due to legal issues with another band, Mindseye changed their name to Embers Ashes. They continued to play parties for three months until they were ready to play their first venue—the Hayloft Liquor Stand. With their continuation to play shows and quick rising of new friends and fans, Embers Ashes welcomed bass player, Lorenzo Piccirilli, who brought a progressive perspective to the band. A few months after, due to personal and musical differences, Josh Durany was departed from Embers Ashes. Shortly after, the band welcomed new guitarist Michael Cox, who brought a more melodic perspective to Embers Ashes. Four months later, the band released their debut CD, “The Eye of the Storm.†Since then, they have played with national acts such as Dead to Fall, Born of Osiris, Gwen Stacy, Once Nothing, Mushroomhead, Between the Buried and Me, See You Next Tuesday, With Dead Hands Rising, Five Finger Death Punch, Oblige, and many more! Now at their strongest lineup, Embers Ashes continues to write more material and bring more creativity to the Michigan metal scene.
