Dexter,Planet's Funniest Animals, Cold Case Files, Autopsy, Medical Detectives. I like the ones where they show actual dead bodies in a tasteful non-exploitive manor and blood spatter experts explaining evidence after they spray cleaned up blood with luminol so that with a special light you can see where the blood had been. Then there was this show that explained how an old doctor who had taken care of a woman with tuberculosis fell in love with her and obsessed over her after she died. He visited her mausoleum frequently to administer embalming fluids so she would stay in tact so that later he could take her home, paint her face with wax as it deteriorated to look like a china doll, inserted a tube in her so he could have sex with her then killed himself so they could ultimately be together. And there was this other one about a mother who basically tortured her daughters by shooting one of them, leaving her in a bathtub, taking out the bullet herself with an exacto knife, locking her in a closet, and making the other daughter clean up the mess of her decomposing sister's body, then forcing her son(s) to take the body to a field to dispose of, among other disturbing things. (I don't advocate this behavior, I am just fascinated with the things "crazy" people do to others). Oh yeah, Curb Your Enthusiasm is good too.
Ellroy, Bukowski, John Kennedy Toole. I am picky.
Great musicians.
