About Me

Cool SlideshowsI am a College Professor teaching third year nursing. I am a mom of a beautiful 11 year old boy, Omar. I am currently working on my Masters of Science in Nursing degree. I am on this because my sister seems to be obsessed with it and it is the only way I will be able to communicate with her! No really it's true! I have a great family and an amazing group of friends. I am happy and at the point in my life where I can enjoy my success. I cherish every second with my son Omar, he is the reason I push myself to be a better person everyday. He is an inspiration to me. He has Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD) or Autism. He is challenged with things in life that we take for granted. So the little joys in life is what we live on. The tiny steps that we overlook daily. His giggle is infectious and he is a happy and loving boy. Other than that I have traveled all over the world for example: France, England, Turkey (my favorite so far), Holland, Mexico, several West Indian Islands, Costa Rica...the list goes on. My next big trip I want to take is to Africa. What else can I say about myself? I speak three different languages: Spanish, Italian and French. I am very interested about reading and meeting inspirational people/leaders. I have been a part of Amnesty International for over 15 years also with the Nelson Mandela Foundation, and most important the Autism Society. I am socially conscious and devote my studies and my upcomming thesis to those who are voiceless/oppressed. On a lighter note I love Basketball and my fave is Miami, although I just love to watch the game regardless of who is playing. Other than that I am excited that my sister is getting married...to a great guy named Lonny who lives in North Carolina...not excited that she is moving away from me and Omar...but it works out well, because I finally get the big brother I have always wanted and I get to be an Aunt to Lonny's little boy which I am also excited about! Anyway that is me in a short and sweet nutshell!

My Interests

Cool Slideshows
Cool Slideshows My son was diagnosed with Autism when he was four. My silent angel deserves better than what the system is giving, which turns out to be nothing! I am passionate about those who have no voice, the oppressed, marginalized etc. I am interested in activism. I have been a part of Amnesty International for several years and now the Nelson Mandela Foundation. Learning how to silence the oppressors, empower those who need help, the destitute... I dedicate my life and work to my child and my causes.

I'd like to meet:

Who would I like to meet on this site: No preference. I am really on this for family and friends and I sure am not going to "collect" friends... Who would I like to meet in person? Some of the people I would like to meet in person who are living would be Nelson Mandela, Bill Clinton (DONE), Maya Angelou, Omar Epps (those who know me, know about my love for anything Omar Epps!), Dwayne Wade (DONE), Coldplay (DONE), U2 (DONE), too many to mention. Those who are not living is a little easier. My grandfather who my family say I replaced and I have his "old soul", Robert Nesta Marley for sure. Followed by: Che, Ghandi, John Lennon, Dr.King, Mother Teresa, you get the picture. Influential people!

Music:

Reggae, Soca, Hip Hop (Rakim, Jay-Z, TuPac the artists all about the poetry rather than the bull!), R&B (Mary J. Blige is my fav.), Motown, Oldies, Andrea Bocelli, Prince, Coldplay, U2, Madonna (yes Madonna), Janet and Michael Jackson, various I guess.

Movies:

ANYTHING WITH OMAR EPPS IN IT...Other than that I have a wide range from Shawshank Redemption, English Patient, The Godfather, Hotel Rwanda, Lord of the Rings, anything from a time period I really like. I have a huge DVD collection. I have everything in all types of categories. Just not into the Westerns...well unless Omar Epps does a Western! LOL!

Television:

House (OMAR EPPS, I GOTTA SUPPORT HIM) Prison Break, 24 and Lost.

Books:

Hee Hee Hoo Hoo Woo! Unless it is for school I really do not read much. A biography of someone really influential is the only exception!

Heroes:

My son Omar (it must be difficult to live in his world), Robert Nesta Marley, Nelson Mandela, people who rise above oppression, people who stand up for injustice....

Being present with these words!

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the...

Omar My Perspective

The mind of my child who has Autism from my point of view. Autism is the mysterious thief of my child's voice. I had witnessed this theft. Before the MMR vaccination my Omar would sing me songs, read...
